“Wonderful glimpse of Roman life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

We were driving through central Sicily and came across this Villa almost by accident. Well worth visiting. Despite a number of tour groups, it was easy to access as individual travellers and take away a feel of an elegant lifestyle of past centuries. Yes, the mosaics were wonderful but I also liked the structure of the villa and the explanations of the space and it's former use. This is where the famous bikini mosaic floor is.
While most of it is very well protected and easy to see, there were still a few mosaics in outdoor paths which you could walk on and I liked the feel of being so close to them. Paths were good and easy to navigate though not great for disabled access.

“Best Roman mosaics in the World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

The new buildings are finally completed providing a stunning impression of the scale of the so-called hunting lodge. The mosaics are the real reason to visit...they are simply the greatest display of ancient mosaic pavements in the World.

“Spectacular mosaics! Not to be missed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We loved touring this extensive Roman hunting villa. Elevated walkways provide optimal viewing of the many rooms with their spectacular floor mosaics. Most mosaics were well preserved due to a flood which buried them under several feet of mud. It is billed as the most exceptional Roman mosaics in the world – and we can believe it. Not to be missed.

“Incredible Roman mosaics”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Visit as early as possible, or else you encounter busloads of visitors. it gets very hot inside the later you come for your visit.
The mosaics are well- displayed. When i visited work to uncover more of the mosaics was in process, but my pictures came out well nevertheless.

“Most interesting site we saw in Sicliy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

I was very excited to find out that, after years of renovations, all the rooms in the Roman Villa were open for viewing. As other reviewers have said, the Italian and English explanations of each room were helpful so a guide was unnecessary. Even though I took pictures of mosaics in most rooms, I bought an informative guide book by Guiseppedi Giovanni, from one of the vendors on the way into the entrance of the Villa. I've enjoyed referring to this guide book once we got home. The mosaics with different subject matter and/or geometric design in each room was mind boggling. We arrived shortly after noon on a Sunday and only had one bus tour group ahead of us. We waited a little while and then we did not feel rushed as we looked in each room. We're glad we were able to stay for two hours at which time we met the taxi we prearranged to take us back to Piazza Armerina. We visited many sites in Sicily for 16 days. I found this to be the most interesting site we saw.
