“Please dont miss it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

It sounds kind of boring to many people, but it is really a fascinating place. Very large and only recently reopened. Unfortunately not well maintained - so much garbage all over the place and the structure has birds roosting and dropping their.. er..."droppings" on these fabulous remnants of a bygone age. But for all that - really a must see in the middle of nowhere. Before or after have lunch at nearby Trattoria La Ruota. Terrific and friendly and spotless kitchen. Get the Melanzane. By the way - as with so many things in Italy - I do not believe that the exhibits are wheelchair accessible.

“Villa Romana Del Casale”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

It is worth the trip to see the Roman floor mosaics. They are beautiful! Drove into town afterwards and ate at Amici Miei. The antipasto plate was very good and the caponata excellent! Don't miss visiting the Cathedral.

“You need to make your way here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Even though a bit out of the way and easy to miss in the grand tour of Sicily, you need to make your way to Piazza Armerina to see the Villa Romana del Casale. The mosaics there are everything the travel books say about them and more. After seeing many old Greek sites scattered throughout Sicily, this Roman villa dating to around 400 AD offers incredible insight into what life was like for highly privileged Romans at that time. The mosaics are fascinating, detailed, artistically amazing, and full of stories. You won't regret it.

“The best Roman mosaics I've ever seen!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

I hadn't even heard of this site but was absolutely blown away when we visited. Having been to many sites in North Africa featuring Roman mosaics I thought I would have heard of this place. Anyway, it was spectacular. I couldn't believe the condition of the mosacis and the vastness of them. A real and unexpected highlight of my trip.
