We arrived Piazza Armerina in the afternoon and passed several B&Bs on our way through town, but none of them opened the door. Finally we found the Umberto33 which turned out to be the nicest little place.
The B&B is situated in the busy main street, Via Umberto, with heavy traffic and difficult parking situation, but we finally found a place next to the church. The owners live on the first floor and there are two rooms at the second floor and one on the top floor, next too the breakfast room. There are steep stairs to climb.
The room was spacious with a double bed, a single bed, closet and TV/DVD. The aircondition was the new type that cools very well and makes very little noise. There was a little balcony overlooking the busy street. The bathroom was nice, with a good shower and hairdryer on loan. The only thing we missed here was Wifi.
The owners, Giovanni, his wife and daughter invited us in for a cold drink and a piece of homemade cactus cake upon arrival and although they didn't speak much English we managed to have a nice chat in Italian/Spanish/English.
At night we had trouble finding a restaurant (this turned out to be our major problem during our trip through the island). Luckily we found Giovannis little wine shop down at the piazza and after some wine tasting he showed us a restaurant just around the corner. They served excellent food, the best during the whole trip!
The breakfast was nice and plentiful, Giovanni served all kinds of Sicilian specialities and we were very happy to have fresh bread for breakfast too as we don't fancy eating sweets. He also sat down and joined us. When leaving we got a bottle of wine from his own production. We have stayed in so many B&Bs in Sicily and we must rate this one as one of the best when it comes to hospitality.
