“Beautiful resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

I stayed there in Oct. 25th for 3 nights.......it was amazing! I had to remind myself when I looked out at the ocean that it wasn't Hawaii. The food and wine is excellent and the rooms are quite large. It's the kind of place to go to when you have been to Italy multiple times and are looking for something new and different. The golf course and spa are extraordinary. You can do a day trip to Agrigento. We hired a car and guide to Palermo for the day. It was well worth it and a wonderful day.....olive groves and grapes being picked on the way.....beautiful scenery.
I would go there again and use it as a base and do other day trips between relaxing at the infinity pool!

Verdura is tucked away on its own peninsula, only an hour from Palermo airport. It offers an array of super activities to keep the whole family happy. From tots to teens kids clubs. From brilliantly organised golf and tennis clubs to an array of water sports. And a wonderful spa full of pampering treatments. There are 3 restaurants which provides a good amount of variety, but you may find you want more variety after a weeks stay so a trip to the local restaurants is also a good idea. The a la carte in the hotel can make it pricey so a half or full board option is the best.

We spent one week here with our children and grandchildren and
everybody enjoyed the holidays in this beautiful resort. Rooms are
very well furnished, large bathroom and dressing. All the staff is
extremely friendly and helpful. Very good breakfastbuffet and all
the 3 restaurants are ok but the one we preferred was the Amare
beach-side restaurant, serving excellent fresh fish, grilled. The
2 18 hole golf courses are in very good shape and even the
9 hole compact course is great fun. Free Yoga and Stretchlessons
and many more activities are offered every day. Spa facilities are
outstanding. A real five star resort.

The grounds of the Verdura Spa and Golf resort are open, right at the sea, and seemingly always very windy. The resort is perfect if you want to enjoy sports such as golf, tennis, gym, watersports etc. Given the wind and closeness to the sea, I would strongly recommend that you go in the hot months of the year in order to enjoy it.

When we went early September, the resort was full of families with children, and felt more like a Robinson Club which was disappointing given the positioning of the resort. The Verdura provides bicycles to get around which is fun, and allow you to get to all the restaurants quite easily from the room. Be warned that restaurants outside the resort are a min.15km drive.

The rooms are spacious, but quite worn and the design is hideous in my view. It is not as luxurious as expected and therefore overpriced.

We liked the pool area and the beach. But overall, found the resort disappointing and soulless.

Mrs R and I stayed at the Verdura for 4 nights in late Sep after having spent 4 nights at the Timeo (Orient Express) property in Taormina.

Whilst the Timeo was nice, we absolutely loved the Verdura. The two can't really be compared in terms of style as the Timeo is about as "old world" as it gets, whilst Verdura is very modern and minimalistic. It reminded me more of places we have visited in Asia (e.g. W at Koh Samui and the St Regis in Bali) than most European hotels I have ever been to.

We liked (almost) everything about Verdura: the look and feel of the place, the service level, the extensive grounds in which you can walk and cycle, the food & beverage offerings, the spa and its various hot pools etc. It is the perfect place for relaxation given that the resort is so large and there is relatively little to do in the environment - so there is no pressure to leave the place.

My only 2 suggestions from improvement would be (1) the breakfast - which is not bad but definitely not great in terms of the available selection, and (2) the "beach" - which basically consist of fairly coarse white sand poured onto some mats on top of concrete. It's ok for chilling but very difficult to access the water without hurting your feet on the pebbles and boulders between that artificial sandy stretch and the open water.

That said - those are 2 minor things that did not in any way interfere with the quality of our stay at the Verdura.

We are a family of four (kids aged 9 & 12) who visited for 6 days.

It is not a cheap holiday destination, so one expects very high standards - Verdura largely lived up to these expectations and we left having had a very relaxing & enjoyable time.

The things that stood out as excellent were the room (we had adjoining deluxe rooms on the ground floor), facilities (we enjoyed use of the large pool, the beach & water sports, the fabulous spa, the impressive golf course & the tennis courts), the bar & the majority of the restaurants.

What could have been better - despite some excellent experience with many of the staff members (it is always very welcome to be recognised and greeted by name) this was not always the case; it was not that staf were inattentive but often slightly disorganised, breakfast service in particular was prone to mistakes and delays.
