“Great resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Mrs R and I stayed at the Verdura for 4 nights in late Sep after having spent 4 nights at the Timeo (Orient Express) property in Taormina.

Whilst the Timeo was nice, we absolutely loved the Verdura. The two can't really be compared in terms of style as the Timeo is about as "old world" as it gets, whilst Verdura is very modern and minimalistic. It reminded me more of places we have visited in Asia (e.g. W at Koh Samui and the St Regis in Bali) than most European hotels I have ever been to.

We liked (almost) everything about Verdura: the look and feel of the place, the service level, the extensive grounds in which you can walk and cycle, the food & beverage offerings, the spa and its various hot pools etc. It is the perfect place for relaxation given that the resort is so large and there is relatively little to do in the environment - so there is no pressure to leave the place.

My only 2 suggestions from improvement would be (1) the breakfast - which is not bad but definitely not great in terms of the available selection, and (2) the "beach" - which basically consist of fairly coarse white sand poured onto some mats on top of concrete. It's ok for chilling but very difficult to access the water without hurting your feet on the pebbles and boulders between that artificial sandy stretch and the open water.

That said - those are 2 minor things that did not in any way interfere with the quality of our stay at the Verdura.

We are a family of four (kids aged 9 & 12) who visited for 6 days.

It is not a cheap holiday destination, so one expects very high standards - Verdura largely lived up to these expectations and we left having had a very relaxing & enjoyable time.

The things that stood out as excellent were the room (we had adjoining deluxe rooms on the ground floor), facilities (we enjoyed use of the large pool, the beach & water sports, the fabulous spa, the impressive golf course & the tennis courts), the bar & the majority of the restaurants.

What could have been better - despite some excellent experience with many of the staff members (it is always very welcome to be recognised and greeted by name) this was not always the case; it was not that staf were inattentive but often slightly disorganised, breakfast service in particular was prone to mistakes and delays.

Everything is first rate at this lovely resort alongside of the Mediterranean. The main golf course is a serious layout, the pools are huge, the beach has lovely imported sand, and the grounds were immaculate. The service staff, from the registration desk to the lads who drove us to ad from our room, was friendly and efficient. It is has an international rather than a Sicilian feel, in part because the staff seemed to be from many countries. Plus the breakfast buffet is splendid. This resort comes with a cost but worth a restful few days in the midst of a tour of the island.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the accommodations and service at this hotel.
The golf, spa, and dining were fabulous. The rooms are modern and spacious and reasonably priced. Great place for a golf or resort vacation. 4 holes on the ocean.

We went there after our visit from an excellent hotel in Greece, the Blue Palace.

Service was good, food was good but not met our expectations coming form the Blue Palace.

Not very effective staff but not bad at all.

We would return.

Four of us, ages 3.5 to 65, had a wonderful week here; something for everyone. Great kiddies clubs - the hotel's and Scott Dunn's; extensive spa; velvet sea to swim in (beach could perhaps be bigger); golf courses galore, if that's your thing; and nice selection of restaurants. Sicilian wines, especially the whites, were a delight to discover. And we all loved trundling around the extensive grounds on the bikes provided. The service was always charming if occasionally a little slow.

If you want to explore the island, shop around for car rentals - can be pricey. But visitors have been coming to Sicily for some while now and many of them have left amazing stuff behind them. Worth a trip.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms built into the slope, nearest to the sea.
