My wife and I spent four nights in this hotel. Whilst there are some good points about this hotel , the swimming pool and reasonably good service, nothing exceptional can be said about the service and facilities of the hotel. The rooms are comfortable but lack touches such as a good selection of toiletries, only two small bars of soap were provided, the air-conditioning is centrally controlled and there is no provision for sitting outside the room even during the summer months. The food was 'OK' during our stay, at dinner we were not provided with a wine list but expected to accept the house wines. In short, attention to detail is lacking for a four star rated hotel.

We recently stayed at this hotel as a base for a weeks visit to Puglia. Weather was fantastic and on 1, day when we did'nt go on one of two optional trips we enjoyed the lovely clean pool all to ourselves. The hotel food was of a good standard with a choice of 3,dishes per course every evening with the pasta being exceptional!. The rooms were spacious with a large balcony which was very welcome.
As this hotel is a good 6km from anywhere there were no choices as for evening entertainments apart from sky tv and a Grand piano in the reception area but as we were touring you could not complain to much as we were up early on most days. Alberobello was the highlight of the trip with the iconic trulli houses superb. all in all a nice area.

This place just looks ugly - there is no outlook or apparent entrance or welcome as you approach. It is simply a concrete box. The wings of the building with bedrooms are designed that you simply look across at your adjacent wing and see the other ugly part of the building.

WHilst it was reasonably clean it could do with an update and deep cleanse. There was always a faint musty smell that was hard to place!

I strongly reccomend that you do not eat in this hotel. There are large coach partys and weddings that must stratch the kitchen to its maximum. This means that those second class guests in the restaurant are simply given what is on the coach party buffet table - probably paying extra for it also. I could not believe that the first course pasta dish was so obvisouly made from frozen fish and poor quality pasta. I was not on a coach trip but was made to think so.

The staff were reasonably polite in the restaurants but with the other parties in residence it was always a feeling of second best to them. If you like to sit at tables with 9 other awful coach trippers and eat second-rate pseudo Italian food of dubious quality then go.

The pool does not open fully until June - even though of me the mid 20s we had were adequate. It was difficult even getting a cushion or towel for use at the pool ( and you are charged if you do get soemone willing to supply!)

I was greatly disappointed by this hotel. It was not cheap, and failed to deliver what I expected. Thank goodness we were able to drive out each day to sample good food and to use this for no more than an uncomfortable night of sleep.

Room Tip: Get one that is far from reception - looking away from pool to avoid noise.

Although the hotel wasn't dirty, there were grotty elements; copious amounts of bird excrement on the way to the pool and a dead bird lay there during the entire duration of our week long stay.

The pool was unmanned, even with temperatures in the mid 20s (c).

Breakfast was meagre and the foods tasted cheap. Instant coffee and fruit juice which tasted like squash.

The optional evening meal tasted like it had been prepared from a packet in a microwave. We didn't return.

The rooms and hotel in general were poorly decorated and very dated. In dire need of refurbishment.

The staff were quite rude and kept us waiting at reception every time.

There was a bad odour in the building most days and on one particular afternoon and evening, it smelled like sewage.

Sky television was available.

There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, nor a clock. The air conditioning didn't work. The heat was unbearable. If one didn't want to sweat, an open window was an option however this invited biting mosquitos into the room.

The only soap available was a tiny cake and an unlabelled liquid wash which was very poor.

The safe didn't work. It took 48 hours to fix. There were no instructions on how to operate it. We asked for assistance and got none.

Loud weddings and other events every day.

Afternoon tea was offered every day but the room in which it was served was always locked up.

We were offered free access to the indoor pool however this wasn't really free as hire of a towel and robe were mandatory at €15.

How this is a four star hotel, I don't know. They'd be lucky to get a three star rating from me. I shall never return.

We stayed two nights in a trulli at the Grand Hotel Chiusa Chetri. Our first choices of trulli rooms elsewhere were booked, so we were happy to find availability at this facility. While farther from Alberobello than we'd have liked, it served the purpose of allowing us a first hand experience in a unique style of folk architecture. Our stay here, though, was merely average.

The trulli accommodations are located at a slight distance from the very modern hotel. At first this felt a bit isolated. As the hotel was extremely busy with large bus groups and wedding receptions, however, we were very soon thankful for this distance. While not a bad thing for those that prefer this type of establishment, the constant rush and pressure of large numbers of people made each venture to the lobby or the restaurant feel very hectic and impersonal.

On the plus side, the trulli room itself was adequate in decor and amenities. It wasn't as charming or atmospheric as I'd anticipated, but if you don't expect luxury you shouldn't be disappointed. Although I imagine rooms in the main hotel could be noisy, the trulli was very quiet for sleeping. The pool area was beautiful. Although certainly well used it wasn't as crowded as you might expect given the swarms of people at the hotel. And although the restaurant was busy, the food was good.

In short, one could certainly do worse. And staying in the trulli should mitigate some of the inconveniences inherent when large numbers of bus tours are being accommodated. Just be aware that this hotel is busy, busy, busy!

We visited this hotel as part of a group of 43. Facilities are good and the staff excellent. Room was clean and kept fresh, although it was disappointing not to have any toiletries provided by this quality of establishment. You do need a car or to be on a tour. I would not have wanted to have spent more than one day without going to visit other places as it is in the middle of the countryside (positive) with its own Trulli (positive) but without much to do other than enjoy its nice clean swimming pool. It seems to be used by tours as well as conventions and weddings. We were not affected by either of the latter as they seemed to use a different part of the hotel. It has a courtesy mini bus to take you to/from Alberobello. Food was good, with a good choice and the restaurant staff very helpful
