Staying at His Majesty Hotel was not on our planned list - we had decided to forego reservations along the path of our trip and just see what we could find on the way. While we did have a list of candidates, HMH was not on this list. As it happened, I checked Trip Advisor from our previous stay and found good ratings for HMH. We ended up staying two nights.
HMH is actually in a fairly good location in Alberobello - it is only about a 7-10 minute walk over the hill to the NW into the Trulli area (and, yes, that area is "truly" commercialized). Upon check-in, we were pleased to discover a good-sized room with a "frigobar" and a very nice bathroom with a whirlpool tub and handheld shower. In addition, our room had a very spacious deck area - no particularly great views, but a nice outside area. Being the off-season, we felt that the 80 Euro price was quite fair.
We parked in front of the hotel, but it appeared that there might be some 'behind the fence' areas as well.
Breakfast was pretty much standard for Italy - some pastries, cheese, yogurt, packaged toast, juice, and coffee. Nothing exception, but just as expected - and sufficient for us.
This would definitely be a property worth considering for someone staying in Alberobello. It could also be a decent base for excursions to items of interest in the surrounding area.
