“Perfect for Us at the Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Staying at His Majesty Hotel was not on our planned list - we had decided to forego reservations along the path of our trip and just see what we could find on the way. While we did have a list of candidates, HMH was not on this list. As it happened, I checked Trip Advisor from our previous stay and found good ratings for HMH. We ended up staying two nights.

HMH is actually in a fairly good location in Alberobello - it is only about a 7-10 minute walk over the hill to the NW into the Trulli area (and, yes, that area is "truly" commercialized). Upon check-in, we were pleased to discover a good-sized room with a "frigobar" and a very nice bathroom with a whirlpool tub and handheld shower. In addition, our room had a very spacious deck area - no particularly great views, but a nice outside area. Being the off-season, we felt that the 80 Euro price was quite fair.

We parked in front of the hotel, but it appeared that there might be some 'behind the fence' areas as well.

Breakfast was pretty much standard for Italy - some pastries, cheese, yogurt, packaged toast, juice, and coffee. Nothing exception, but just as expected - and sufficient for us.

This would definitely be a property worth considering for someone staying in Alberobello. It could also be a decent base for excursions to items of interest in the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 1st floor in the NE corner.

After visiting other run down hotels right in the city centre and ridiculous expensive "Trulli" hotels with extortionate prices, I was pleasantly surprised to find a good modern looking hotel right on the outskirt of the town. The first impression after entering the reception proved my good luck, as the staff were genuinely friendly and offering great smiles, which I highly appreciated after the grumpy welcomes in the first hotels! I did not have any reservation, but hotel gave me a nice room for a real good price including breakfast. The room was spacious, very quiet and hotel also has a quite good size swiming-pool. A plus was that I could finally park my car in front of the hotel (trying to park in historic centers in Puglia is not an easy task!) and I decided to explore this magnificent town on foot. From the hotel it took me only 5 min to reach Largo Martolotta with all its cools bars outdoors and a another 5 min to reach the Cathedral. Overall a great stay!
