“Holiday Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

The Palace Hotel is a 3 star hotel in the seaside resort of Levanto. The hotel is well situated for day trips to the Cinque Terre. It has a secured car parking facility and easy walking distance to the train station to visit the 5 towns of cinque Terre.

The hotel though old is well maintained and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is a mainly continently breakfast but does also include scramble eggs & small sausages, cereals, fresh fruit with tea & coffee.

The hotel is close walking distance to local cafes in a nice tree lined street. Would recommend it to fellow travellers.

Hotel Palace, had to stay an extra day as we loved this quiet village. An easy walk down the main road from the train station will take 10 minutes strolling. The hotel staff or family that run this place are professional and personable. The room was large clean and cool with every convenience. We hired on site bikes (maybe could be free for guests?) for a half day to do the bike tunnel trek, well worth doing. Enjoy something from the fully stocked Bar while you utilize the free wifi from the TV room or Garden Lounge chairs. Breakfast was delicious and well stocked by the lovely kitchen staff. I really liked the juice and coffee machine, yummy. If you have a stream side room you may get serenade d by the local wildlife ;)

My family and parents visited Levento for two days during an 11 day tour in Italy. Clean, convenient, charming, wonderful hospitality, etc. etc. Upon our arrival we were welcomed warmly by the staff. My family of four had a spacious room with nice beds. Our kids even had actual beds and not the usual fold out sofas often found in Europe ! Though not fancy, the rooms are comfortable and clean. The hotel itself is so very charming. The morning room was sunny, the staff were helpful and the food was top notch. Eggs, sausages, yummy pastries, cold meats, cheese, etc. etc. The staff is also very knowledgeable about the area and was always happy to point us in the right direction. I just can't say enough good things about this hotel. As our first visit was only two days, we look forward to returning to Levento and the Hotel Palace !!

After more than 30 years of travelling to and in Italy I normally do not expect much of hotels, often Clean and ok. But this is a unique hotel in terms of charm, atmosphere, food and spotlessly clean. The charming family running it for generations has managed the delicate balance of updating the rooms with preserving the 90 year old charm and style of the overall place. I would say it is rare to find this kind of unspoilt tradition, you can almost feel the 1920-ties, 50-ties or whatever reference Point. This seems to be a great matriacart, you only meet people in all functions and they are all so nice, helpful and knowing. And if you stay there enjoy the really outstanding cooking, it is like great home cooking, plentiful and delicious - not exactly what you would expect for a 3 star hotel (we had 2 really good 3-course dinners at a very low price) and breakfast is a joy.
Levanto in itself is a great Little "slow Town" with great restaurants, spectacular views, good beach and fanatstic trekking opportunities.

We booked direct with the hotel for an autumn walking break and were more concerned with a convenient location with parking. We were very impressed by what we experienced at the Palace and would certainly return. Location was perfect - easy to find, not too far from shore or railway station. Parking was included and in a secure area of the hotel courtyard. While the public rooms and restaurant appeared somewhat formal, the staff and family were extremely friendly and informative. The food, especially the evening meal, was one of the highlights of the holiday and all in all we would be happy to return. The Cinque Terre was quiet at the time (the main seafront route was closed because of rockfall, but we were interested in the other trails) but I imagine Levanto would be a good choice to avoid the hordes in high season. We had no problems with internet connection in room or water despite, for part of our stay, the hotel being busy with a large walking group.

Room Tip: We requested a high room with view of the sea (which means it would be away from the main road) but...

This hotel has an "Old World" look and feel from the furnishings in the lobby and sitting room to the decor in the dining room. It is well kept up and very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great, with an assortment of cold meats, cheeses, rolls and pastries. Also, yogurt and cereal are available. They have a great coffee machine that will give you your coffee of choice, from Italian to American, cappuccino , etc. our room had plenty of space and we had a nice view of the town from our balcony. The bath was large and had modern fittings. However, we were on one of the upper floors (3 or 4) so the water pressure was a little on the low side.

Parking was in an area adjacent to the back of the hotel. The maneuvering area was a little tight, but we didn't use our car much during our stay so it wasn't a problem. The parking was free, but since it is limited, prospective guest should let the hotel know in advance about their parking needs.

The hotel was only a five minute walk to the train station and the first Cinque Terre town only five minutes away. We found the town of Levanto to be very charming and interesting and enjoyed it as much as the Cinque Terre towns. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is well located. 8 min walking distance from Levanto station or with heavy bags suggest the 10 euro taxi option. The hotel is located 3 min from beachfront and the tourist/restaurant/cafe district of Levanto. The staff are friendly and efficient. The gardens and reading room offer a good alternative to the modest rooms. A very good breakfast buffet is provided. Levanto is a great launching pad to Cinque Terre being the last regional stop before the National Park. Only negative is the noise generated by the Vespas that roar up and down the adjoining road during the night...but in cooler weather closing the double glazed doors to the balcony reduces the noise to an acceptable level. In summary, if we went back again, we would not chance our luck on anywhere else in Levanto. Good value for money.
