The place is like nothing else. Secluded, beautiful and superbly well-managed. We stayed at Il Cannito for 5 days in the end of July 2011. The service is impeccable, personal and very friendly. The food is fantastic, from start to finish. The location and surroundings are stunning.

We stayed in il canito for a few nights during our honeymoon and I can only say it is the most amazing place we have been to. The views are spectacular, the pool is very nice, rooms a good, but the best thing is definitely the food. It is a family-owned business and that is what makes this place so great. Mother and daughter cook everyday, and you really can't get enough of their food!
Highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed at Il Cannito for 1 week this last June. It was by far the highlight of my entire Italy vacation. The grounds are breathtaking. The pool is glorious, with the most spectacular view! This family owned establishment is so home-y that we felt like we were part of the family. Ana Maria and Santa (Mother and Daughter) prepared all of the meals and they were absolutely delicious...some of the best meals I ate in Italy! The Sole room was private, clean and comfortable! We cannot wait to come back!

Room Tip: We loved the Sole Room.

We have only good things to say about our stay at Il Cannito, and highly recommend booking at least 3 nights to really enjoy the experience. Our experience began on a positive note, when Antonella - who oversees the business - quickly responded to our questions and booked us into one of the two lower rooms (il Sole), which we were pleased to discover had a private deck with sun chairs, a spacious room, comfortable bed with fine sheets, a hot tub with massage jets next to a large window to let in the morning air.

Nicola, her twin brother, was equally accommodating - since we didn't have a car, he picked us up at the train station, shuttled us to Il Cannito which is tucked away in the hills overlooking Paestum and the Mediterranean Ocean. He then drove us around every day, showing us the highlights of the area. He took us to a local buffalo farm where we each devoured a piece of cake covered in blueberry yogurt, and brought us to and the family beach club (http://www.maremirtilli.it/) where we enjoyed a long walk along the beach, a siesta under a beach umbrella and an icecream of our choice to cool off.

Il Cannito consists of two beautifully restored buildngs that maintain the original structure on the exterior, with modern features and decor inside. This juxtaposition of old and new is displayed throughout the grounds, in the art, music, food and decor.

We had all of our meals at Il Cannito, in part due to convenience but mostly because the food was exceptional. Anna Maria prepared simple but delicious local dishes for dinner, while Santa baked decadent cakes and pastries which we enjoyed both for dessert and in the morning with coffee

But the most memorable aspect of our experience was connection we felt with our hosts.
Anna Maria (mother), Antonella, Santa and Nicola were warm, attentive, and genuinely engaging while at the same time upholding their commitment to creating a peaceful, private experience for their guests.

We arrived with smiles and handshakes and left with hugs and warm words.

Room Tip: ask for il Sole room

Believe all the reviews here. After reading all the positive comments we booked 3 nights of our Italy trip at Il Cannito. Everything about this place is special. From the location tucked away on a hillside overlooking the ocean, surrounded by nature, beautiful trees to the extremely clean, well-appointed, very private, spacious rooms - this little piece of heaven is a must. But the very best part of Il Cannito is the Gorga family who owns it. These are very special people. Antonella who makes sure you feel like family even before you get there. Nicola who is the host who will do anything possible to make your stay perfect, Maria and Santa - the queens of the kitchen who cook the most fabulous dinners we had in Italy. Pasta, chicken, veggies, potatoes - all from their local gardens. Pastry chef Santa whips us something special every night that brings tears to your eyes! Nicola's knowledge of the area make him a fabulous resource.
I cannot say enough about this place. We didn't want to leave. Thank you to the beautiful Gorga family for making us feel so welcome. We will be back!

Having had this place recommended to us and read all the reviews on this web site we really hoped this trip was going to be amazing - and it was.

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were treated like extended family and were exceptionally sad to have to come home.

This is truly a family affair - Anna Maria (mum) works with her eldest daughter, Santa, in the kitchen creating culinary masterpieces - you will never forget their daily-made cakes nor (if you're lucky enough to get them) their "Pezzogna" fish or "Cima" beef.

Nicola and his twin sister, Antonella, will make sure your stay is exactly what you hoped for - Nicola has great knowledge of the food served and the best local wines to accompany it, plus he will happily arrange excursions for you to places like Paestum to see the ruins/visit the museum, or to a buffalo mozzarella farm. It is clearly a pleasure for him to show you his "neighbourhood" and explain its history.

As the title says, simply wonderful. A big thank you to Anna Maria, Nicola, Santa and Antonella for making our stay so special.
