We had a lovely 8 days staying at this hotel with a toddler and a 6 month old baby. We had half board and we were very well looked after, we could have a 3 course dinner every night if we wanted to, with fish, seafood, steak, pasta and salad on offer. I had a different starter and main course every night. They have a proper wood fired pizza oven and excellent pizza, even the locals would come in to buy takeaways it was that good! If we wanted pizza we could have it, nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel so welcome.
Expecting to be sat out of the way as we might expect in England we loved "our" table in the middle of the busy resturant each night, with a really sensible Italian high chair that was at the correct height for the table and although looked unstable to us was perfect as it snuggly fitted under the table keeping it secure. Or toddler learnt to sit at the table for nearly 2 hours once as he liked being there so much, this is from a boy who would have difficulty managing ten minutes at home!
Trust Franco, if he recommends something it is because it is good and fresh, not because he wants to use something up! He even gave me sea bass one night!
It seemed to us that once you have your meal, you are paying almost nothing for your room, the house wine is cheap and easy to drink.
If you are looking for an Italian experience, stay here, yes it is really laid back and it takes a few days to get used to the way things work, but it is well worth it. For example your breakfast is in the cafe next door, but you have to find it yourself, however it is such good coffee and the best pastries we have ever had so we came to love it.
We had one little emergency, and the hotel staff drove us to the hospital (which is one of the main hospitals for Naples, safe distance from the volcano I guess!), and just said it was part of the service. If you want to feel welcome and safe, be looked after and have a proper Italian holiday then look no further. Even though we ate our fill, it is so healthy that we even lost a few pounds in weight each, that's a first for one of my holidays! It might have had something to do with all the walking and chasing a toddler all day though.
The location is ideal, away from the cars on the main street which is pedestrian only for most of the time, 200m from the beach, supermarket is a similar distance in the opposite direction and seen as each room has a fridge you can keep a few snacks and yogurts for the children fresh.
I think our toddler summed up the mood on departure, once he realised we were going, not just for a day trip (boats to Amalfi etc well worth it), he looked out of the window and burst in to tears, calling "big cafe, the man" (meaning the resturant and Franco), only to be calmed down by us promising that one day we would return, even now a ,month later he still asks to go back.
