“Excellent hotel for everyone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2009

Stayed at Hotel Noris at the beginning of May with my boyfriend's family. Hotel Noris was chosen because we needed to be close to ischia ponte. Location wise, this hotel is great. Bus stop right outside that will take you in 5 minutes to ischai porto, which is where all the ferries depart from and also, where all the buses go from/return to. Ischia ponte is great (see pic) with plenty of restaurants to keep you going. Opposite hotel Noris there is a small beaches. There are better beaches on the island but good all the same.

Whereas this hotel doesn't have a pool, you are free to go and use the one at hotel carta romana (I think you spell it like that!) which is about a 15 minutes walk away from Noris but definently worth it even if it is just for the views.

Hotel Noris itself has spectacular views either from the large roof terrace or from a balcony.

We stayed in room 9, which is the room at one end of the hotel. Great views (see pics)
Bathroom was plentiful in size and so was bedroom. Balcony had enough room on to sit the 2 occupants of the room.

Breakfast was not amazing but was enough, as you don't want to over eat at breakfast when you know what the options are for lunch in italy!!

We stayed half board and was definently value for money. WIthin our party there was food allergies and vegetarians. This was always catered for even if it meant doing something that wasn't on the menu for them.

Room was cleaned daily and receptionist were always happy to help and give recommendations when requested.

One recommendation about ischia... Go to "negumbo".. amazing private beach and about 20 different thermal pools. Awesome!!!!

Overall great choice ischis and hotel noris. We are back off there next year!

This is a fantastic hotel for the money, amazing location in the heart of the gorgeous Ischia Ponte, beautiful views over the bay of naples from the front facing balcony rooms and roof terrace, lovely, lovely staff and a great base for exploring the rest of the island.

Myself & boyfriend, Mum, Brother & girlfriend, Sister and her 3 children visited for a week in May, under difficult circumstances following an unexpected family bereavement and Maria and staff could not have done more for us. They really made what was a very sad time for us all much easier -huge and heartfelt thanks to them for all their help

the boyfriend and I stayed for 8 days on a B&B basis in room 5. The hotel rooms are arranged over two floors (no lift) and there are, i think, 23 in total - making for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Our room was front facing with an FANTASTIC view out over the bay of Naples and Procida from our balcony (which came with two chairs, one deckchair and optional washing line!). The room was spotless, cleaned every day, fresh towels etc. The bathroom (shower only) was a sensible size - significantly larger than some of the cupboards masquerading as bathrooms I have had to shower in when staying in Italy(!) and there was plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. It's well worth paying the little bit extra for the rooms with seaview and balcony, but even without there is the large roof terrace to lounge about on and relax - sun loungers and chairs etc. The nearest beach is literally 3 minutes walk away - although smaller and not as spectacular as some of the other beaches on the island it is sandy and clear and safe to swim in for little ones. And free! You often pay for the 'better' beaches in italy and this is certainly the case here in ischia.

Another plus is that the hotel Noris has a big sister up the road - the Parco Cartaromana. Guests of the Noris can use the pools and sun loungers etc there for free, which was great for a much needed local relax with a book and some shade from the abundant sun. They also have a sauna, indoor and outdoor thermal pools and offer spa treatments.

Some people might say that the rooms are on the small side - they are not huge but are beautifully and simply done, with amazing artwork from a local artist Mario Mazella in the rooms. Plenty comfortable. Also, breakfast is an abundant help yourself affair, but very much geared towards bread (and jams etc) and cake (freshly made marble cake/fruit lattice type/chocolate brownie-esque items were in evidence during my stay. delicious!), coffee and juice etc and little toasts. I saw people bringing their own cheese and ham down to breakfast - I imagine this wouldnt be encouraged but no-one was asked not to do this that I could see. Personally, I'm happy with cake and coffee and juice for breakfast but if you want fruit you might have to ask!

Also worth mentioning that the Hotel offers half board for an extra 10 euros a head. I didnt take this myself but heard only good things about the food from the rest of our party.

There is a very well stocked supermarket two doors down from the hotel - the 'deli' section out the back will make you a huge, generous sandwich to take away with you; great for a picnic lunch. There's a great pizza takeaway place across the road from the supermarket too... we spent a couple of happy evenings having takeaway pizza on the beach under the stars or sat on the harbour arm listening to the sea and watching the lights of the boats in the water. There's a good selection of restaurants and shops down along the main street from the hotel - really everything you need is right on your doorstep. Be slightly wary of the place with the netting hanging outside, next door to Sciue Sciue...the food was very good but we were brought several dishes that we didn't order 'to try' that we were not allowed to refuse and that we were charged for. Not pleasing when you're on a strict budget!

The bus to Ischia Porto (change here to get around the rest of the island) leaves from a few meters up the road from Hotel Noris. It's really easy to get about the place and the buses run late into the night. The hotel staff gave us loads of great info about how to get around and where to visit during our stay. We even managed a trip into the mountains to a restaurant called Il Foccolare - it was the final destination of the number 16 bus from Casamicciola which I think says something about the quality of the food and its popularity as it seems to be supporting an entire bus service!

I really recommend trying the famous Ischian rabbit, which is a speciality of the island. The restaurant is dedicated to the principles of slow food so you need to book your rabbit in advance but it is well worth it. Their homemade pasta of aubergine and wild herbs was one of the most incredible things I have ever had the pleasure of eating and, in contrast to previous experiences, the additional, unordered starters that were brought to us really were 'to taste' and didnt end up on the bill.

Ischia is a beautiful island well worth a visit and Hotel Noris is brilliant for the money. Truly the loveliest hotel I have ever stayed in in terms of atmosphere, location, comfort, facilities (including the use of the Cartaromana), helpfulness of staff. I recommend it to everyone and will be returning as often as possible myself.

Loved the location right above a supermarket and with a view overlooking Castello Aragonese in the heart of Ischia Ponte. Loved the balcony and the rooftop balcony, but the beach in front of the hotel is not much. The hotel itself is of good quality but the owner of the hotel was a little annoying particularly at breakfast where he insisted we sat at a table that he wanted, and was quite rude to his staff.

The other reviews of this hotel are mostly in Italian reflecting the nationality of most of the hotel guests , In fact quite a few seemed to be regulars which speaks a lot for the quality of the hotel.

Anyway I thought a review in English might be useful.

This is an excellent small, Italian 2 Star hotel with clean rooms, comfortable beds, good food and a welcoming atmosphere.

I had booked originally for two people, but only I was able to go, this left me with a double room to myself. The hotel wasn't too happy about this for some reason, despite the fact that they lost no money over it.

This meant I got a large airy room with a ceiling fan, two large windows and a balcony. In fact the level of ventilation at night was such that I turned off the ceiling fan because it was making me feel cold.

Maybe a smaller closed room might have needed proper air conditioning, the one I had, didn't. The downside of open windows however, is noise. Normal traffic noise at night is not a problem because there is actually very little of it. However the Italians do have the practice of doing their rubbish collections in the early hours of the morning in towns ie 4/5am. Lots of empty bottles first thrown into one container (a dump truck actually) and then this gets emptied into another lorry so you get the noise twice. For a brief period the noise is horrendous

I was on half board, The evening meal was varied, two choices each night although I did get told off for trying to take the "wrong" "primo" with a particular "secondo". on a few occasions, Not important and actually quite a friendly guesture on the hotel's part. Breakfasts were simple, with some cake, bread, butter and jam. Noticeably missing was normal cheese and any ham etc. In practice very much what many of my Italian friends actually eat at home for breakfast. Coffee was typical hotel morning coffee; A general complaint about many Italian hotels has to concern this morning coffee, for a country that can make the world's best coffee, why does that served at breakfast have to be so poor? I should say that the coffee served in the bar in the hotel is the usual high quality you would expect in Italy.

The hotel is just beside the point where the local Vigili stop traffic getting into Ischia Ponte at certain times of day and night. Ischia Ponte effectively becoming a pedestrian area for a while. Nice for tourists, not so good for residents!
Ischia Ponte and the Castello are therefore in very easy strolling distance.

Porto is somewhat further, maybe 30 minutes on foot even for an ageing 65 year old like myself. The buses are cheap but do get full at various times of day. They are useful for both getting into Porto without the walk and also as a means of touring the Island. The CD and CS both do circular routes around the main places, whilst the 1 goes to St Angelo and there is another that goes to Maronti which has a large beach

For those of you with the experience and nerve, the Hotel can arrange hiring a scooter. This is an even better way of travelling in my view, you can stop anywhere and take photos as well as exploring roads which the buses don't go along . However, if you have never driven a scooter before, It might be much wiser to avoid them. Cars and Road Surfaces tend to be hard.

You will probably find that you pay for the hire separately from the hotel bill and probably in cash. Elsewhere in other reviews I have seen this complained about; it is quite normal to pay for extra items like this in Italy because the money then doesn't pass through the hotels "books". If it did it would get taxed as income ... the money is passed on to the company that hires out the scooter, and then only they have the tax to pay. The hotel is only acting as an agent. I would expect beauty treatments etc to be dealt with in a similar way unless they are actually provided by the hotel itself. However I am well past repair in that respect.

A short walk (about 5/10 , minutes towards Porto) there is Calice which is a large bar / cafe complex, with music, where you can sit and be entertained until late. The walk to it is uphill, with the advantage that the return is downhill.

A word must be added about the microtaxis; they are expensive; Inside they used to be a sign to the effect that "is has been agreed that the minimum fare is €10" although this year they were asking 12. I did ask one driver with whom they had made this agreement....... If you have any amount of luggage to bring to the hotel, it is almost essential to use a taxi from the port. The idea of a ferry full of people getting into buses stretches the imagination a bit. However some, usually younger ones, do manage it.

The hotel room was simply furnished with a TV mounted extremely high on the wall for some reason. The room did not have a small safe although the hotel I believe would keep valuables in their safe on request. I carry camera(s) and this tends not to be a solution for them however.
There was a writing table, bedside cabinet. and a reasonably large wardrobe.
The bathroom had a simple but effective shower and a shower curtain. It lacked a shelf to hold things like a washbag etc what available space I filled up myself, had there been two of us it would have been a different matter. There was an adequate supply of hot water at any time I had need of it which is much better than some hotels I have stayed in.

On the roof there was a spacious terrace with sun loungers for those who like these things.

To summarise, an excellent 2 star hotel, what they do, is done well. The staff and owner worked hard to ensure that ones stay was as pleasant experience as possible.

Thoroughly recoommended.
