“Be prepared to stay somewhere else if you book this hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

We can't give this hotel a rating. We booked well in advance and had email confirmation of our booking. When we arrived, however, the concierge apologised uncomfortably, saying that we could not have our room because the air conditioning was broken. We asked to see the room, but he could not show us because the air conditioning was broken. It seems likely that if we'd asked for a cup of coffee we wouldn't be able to have one because the air conditioning was broken! But he had taken the liberty of finding us a room at another hotel in Lacco Ameno. "It is a much better hotel," he told us, in one of the most curious marketing exercises I've ever encountered. After some awkward moments and an inspection of the 'better hotel', we agreed to give it a try. Didn't have much choice really. We had come from Australia and knew nobody in Ischia. As it turns out, the alternative hotel was great. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay there (reviewed elsewhere). As a postscript, the good people did send an email, the day before we. Were due to checkin and while we were traveling, saying the hotel was full and they couldn't honor our booking. Fail! So, apart from seeing the entry foyer of the hotel, we have nothing to base a rating on. But since we are obliged to give a rating in order to submit this review, we give it less than 1.

Positive points -
1. Location - on the seafront, close to Lacco Ameno shops and restaurants, bus stop and taxi parking right outside the hotel.
2. Restaurant staff – the only people who are actually friendly in this hotel

Negative points -

1. Reception staff is either lazy or incompetent, only one person spoke English, others nothing but Italian. Upon arrival they just gave us keys and nothing else - no information on pools, spa center, meals in the hotel - nothing. By the way, there is no info booklet in the room either, so no chance of getting info in some other way. To be able to leave on Sunday you have to check out on Saturday from 17 to 19.

2. Taking into account the number of elderly guests you would say that it is elderly-oriented hotel, but the hotel consists of a large number of stairs, no elevator and hardly any porters - so you have to carry suitcases – and beware there are no ramps!

3. Mattresses in the room are terrible soft and dated - on the second night backs start aching, during the night you risk falling down every time you turn, pillows are old and in lumps

4. Bed sheets have not been changed in 8 days

5. Breakfast is served from 8 to 9, it is so basic that even boiled eggs are missing. There are machines for serving tea and coffee, but you are not allowed to use them yourself – there is a special attendant for it. For every scrap of food you have to stand in a long queue – including coffee and hot water

Rooms in the main building are better than in small garden houses – in the garden room virtually had no window, old TV with a small screen (average book size), but at least air conditioning was working. In the room in the main building it was broken.

Room Tip: Main building - have windows and are more spacious

I've got to say that I was disappointed with the hotel. The proximity to the town and public transport is good, though the hotel lets itself down quite badly. As a young traveller it felt like I was in an old-age home. Perhaps it was the time of year, but the pool was inundated with older folk, the staff unfriendly and disinterested and the amenities very very basic. For the price I had a ridiculously small TV, the breakfast was poor and service generally lacking. While it was clean and had okay views, I wouldn't return.
