We stayed two days in this hotel, thanks to a sudden change of the original plan where we were to merely make a day's visit to the island of Ischia. We were very glad with the change, for we found ourselves in the Mezzatorre hotel, with its scented gardens, winding paths lined with flowering shrubs of many hues, the air perfumed and the head shaded, all spread over seven sprawling hectares. Everywhere, the views of sea, land and sky were the stuff of dreams. one is forgiven for falling into a reverie.
Our room was quite compact, but storage space was generous to a fault, while the bed and bath linen left nothing to be desired. Ischia is much larger than Capri, its beauty less tamed and more varied. In the same vein, Mezzatorre seemed to us more spontaneous, more at ease, and certainly less pretentious than the San Pietro di Positano where we stayed just before moving to Ischia. The dining room has an outstanding kitchen, and the breakfast was very good, both meals accompanied by impeccable service. The price of dinner was not eye-raising, unlike elsewhere along the coast of Amalfi, and was in fact excellent value for money. Similarly, lunch on the beach was a delightful affair. The hotel is in every sense the equal of the hotel mentioned earlier in this review, and regarded equally by many as THE place to stay on the island. Except that we paid exactly a third of the price charged by the latter. In short, I recommend it most highly.
