“Comfortable, quiet but a bit remote”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

The hotel is nice, the rooms are comfortable, the service is quite good. The only real drawback is that the local area is not interesting at best, and a bit dodgy at worst.

As long as you have your own car and want to tour Amalfi and/or Pompeii, it is a good base camp, just off the motorway.

As frequnt chain guests, we got free WiFi, which was fast and easy to use.

Once the kitchen closes (at 10 pm I think), your options for local dining are quite limted.

Stayed at this hotel when traveling the Amalfi Coast. Not sure why I picked it instead of one in Salerno but glad we did. Salerno is in most parts a sleazy dump and one feels quite uncomfortable there. Cava De tirreni is a lovely small town some 10 minutes drive on the autostrade from the port of Salerno from which both the Sita bus and ferries travel to amalfi and the other villages going as far as Sorrento. The hotel is only 100 m from the freeway exit (no traffic noise whatsoever) - the rooms are small but clean and well appointed. The staff were exceptional going out of their way many times to find out information for us and to make sure our stay was comfortable - nothing was too much trouble. Exceptional value and would highly recommend if you are driving in the Salerno area. Only negative - no coffee/tea facilities in the room.

Cava De'Terreni was a quaint little town located just a few minutes inland from the Amalfi Coast. It was about 15 minutes from Salerno and maybe 35 minutes from Amalfi. The Holiday Inn was about 1 year old back in April 2011. It is close to the Autostrada exit and about a 10 minute walk from the center of town. We were driving to the Amalfi coast at night and recognized the sign for a hotel – our friends were staying in Ravello, but we decided to stay here for the night and drive the coast in the morning.

WOW, I am so glad we did…the drive during the daylight was magnificent. It was so beautiful driving along the cost – a bit scary at times, but scenes I will never forget.

Back to the hotel – over super nice and very friendly and accommodating staff!

Room: The room was nice, and large. The bed was in one part of the room and a smaller part with a changing area and the bathroom. The bathroom/shower was large and spacious – which is sometimes hard to find in Italy. 100% enjoyed the room. One down side - this is not the location if you are looking for a view - just for the EASY location!

Food: We were just there for breakfast. The staff was accommodating to sever what they could – I ordered an omelet and they made it to order. Lots of pastries also offered.

We went into town to a great restaurant, recommended by the hotel staff. It was delicious. Only 1 waiter in the entire restaurant spoke English, but we made it through dinner without a problem! They were so nice and wanted to be sure we had a great time! The restaurant was definitely a local establishment – not many tourists…but we find those are the best ones!

We had a wonderful time and I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again – and I know cliché that we stayed at a Holiday Inn in Italy!

Room Tip: Super easy location to get in and out!

Cava De'Terreni was a nice little town located just a few minutes inland from the Amalfi Coast. It was about 15 minutes from Salerno and maybe 25 minutes from Amalfi. The Holiday Inn was pretty new, close to the Autostrada exit and about a 10 minute walk from the center of town.

The room was nice, breakfast was decent. My only complaint was the construction going on in the street in front of the hotel which caused a lot of traffic and a mess for pedestrians.

We took a 10 minute train ride to Salerno (there is also a bus line that runs there as well; the stop is 1 block from the hotel) and then the "Blue" Coastal Tourist bus to Amalfi that runs along the coast road (much, much better & safer than driving).

From Cava, we also drove to Paestum to see the Greek Temples (3000 years old). We spent another day visiting Vietre sul Mare, the next town over. We decided not to visit Sorrento which is also fairly close but we decided against it.

Because of all the traffic on the Coastal road it took almost 1 1/2 hours to get to Amalfi from Salerno which is 12 miles away (Of course the bus stopped for passengers, but there were a lot of traffic lights and places where traffic had to yield so oncoming traffic could get by as well).

Room Tip: Not a scenic view from the hotel; we chose it for it's proximity to the Amalfi Coast

This is a brand new hotel, just off the highway.
The hotel has spacious parking and the check in staff is welcoming and friendly. The room was large for 2 people and the large shower and bath was very nice after showering in tiny showers throughout our trip.
The hotel overlooks the highway but the windows are sound proof so we hadn't had any problem sleeping until late.
Even though the hotel is not locate near any main city it is very easy to get from it to Pompeii (15 Minutes) Sorrento (around 45) and Salerno (15 minutes).
If you arrive hungry don't worry- the restaurant serves until 22:00, or, better still, cross the road and eat a fabulous local Pizza!
All in all a very pleasant stay, much higher than other hotels we've come across in our trip.

This hotel was great. It was clean and modern. We were disppointed that the breakfast was extra. As other's have said, this hotel is for those who have a car as it is not close to any public transportation, but it was very easy to find off of the Autostrada. While at the hotel, we asked for a recommendation of where to eat dinner, something local and cheap. He recommended a little family-owned place right up the street, and it was excellent. We went back to the restaurant twice because the pizza and pasta was so good, and the prices were excellent.

This appears to be a newer hotel just off the highway at the edge of town. The town itself seems to have some history with a lively downtown area. Convenient and has parking if you have a car. If you want to visit the Amalfi Coast but have no car, then I would suggest staying in one of the towns right on the coast, as public transportation from this location would be a bit of a pain and a time waster. Having said that, it is not advisable to drive the Amalfi Coast yourself in high season due to limited parking, treacherous road, lots of traffic--in other words, during high season on the Amalfi Coast, if you have a car, find a hotel right on the coast with parking and then leave it there while you take buses and boats to visit other towns on the coast. If you want to visit Pompei and have a car, this hotel is very convenient, but if you don't have a car I'm not sure how you would get there if you were not part of a tour group--again, public transportation would take time and effort. The staff was very nice, as was the room. We did not eat in the restaurant, but it appears to be a nice restaurant.
