“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

Rooms were really rubbish they had no Air con so couldn't sleep at all, shower so small i couldn't fit in. service was good. pool was amazing but disappointing that it wasn't actually in the hotel and had to walk up the street to get to it. Definetly not going to return there and if you want to go to amalfi, there are a lot better places on the amalfi coast

Lovely stay, pretty scala is quiet but 20 min walk to ravello. Rooms small and spotless and charming, bed big and very comfy.
Rooms cleaned daily and ladies lovely.
Staff excellent, friendly helpful and happy at all times
Wifi free in reception, does not work in rooms.
Food in restaurant very good, maybe slightly over priced though
Pool area brilliant, pool is clean big and jus what you need after a day on your feet.
Ravello has lots of restaurants and great place to look around, everyone seems very happy there and less touristy than positano, nice few bars in the square.
Views cannot be beaten.
Breakfast basis but just enough would be good to haves bit of fruit included.
Would go back without a doubt
Nice authentic stay.
Thank you all

Absoulutely fabulous resort and the perfect base to explore Scala, Ravello and the Amalfi Coast! Cecilla, Enzo, Antonio and all the other members of this delightful, family run hotel, bent over backwards to make our stay superbly enjoyable and very relaxing.
The rooms are clean and compact (but who needs a 5 star room, then you have the whole of the Amalfi Coast to discover!). The hotel itself is very accessable (with a lift for those that need it). The bar serves fresh, local produce cooked to perfection and some excellent cocktails. The pool area is immaculate and in the perfect position to spend a whole day in the sun. Thursday night BBQ's, with entertainment from Enzo and Co are not to be missed.....Nor is Sunday lunch times, spent sitting at a table in the bar terrace and ordering the seafood salad, with beautiful views! Without doubt, the best plate of food i had all week, superb!
Information about local sights and trips is freely available from the excellent staff, as is help with anything you may need.
We highly recommend this hotel and area of Italy and will definitely return for more of the same.
Grazi!

Room Tip: A room with a view of Ravello is a must! We never grew tired of opening up the doors to the patio an...

I've visited some hotels before, but this was like coming home. We felt welcome, were treated in a very personal way, had a free concert by the owner and a family member, the view is amazing and were serviced with every question we had. We're looking forward visiting Scala and Ravello again. Grazi mile!

We booked this hotel based on other TA reviews which are surprisingly very good. The hotel is split between la marghirita hotel and villa giussepina which are two seperate dwellings. Other reviewers have suggested that the rooms in hotel la marghirita are generally very poor but the rooms in villa giussepina are nice. I took this advice on board and booked our stay a couple of months early, I sent an email to the hotel requesting specifically a room in villa giussepina (and not la marghirita). When the hotel manager confirmed that our 3 night stay would be in villa giussepina I booked the room. I was excited!

Unfortunately when we arrived at the hotel we did not get a very good feeling at all. It is extremely tired and dated. The breakfast area is anything but quaint, it was dirty and the pool area was crowded. The lady at reception took us up to our room which was in the back corner of the hotel. Before she opened the door she explained to us that we hadn't got the villa room that we had booked rather another guest had booked our room for an additional night. This alone wouldn't have been so bad, I understand hotels need to be flexible but when she opened the door it smelt like no one had been in this room for years. It was something you would expect from your grandma, there was visible dust flying around as she opened the curtains and I couldn't bring myself to even look at the bathroom the entrance was bad enough. It was stuffy and probably one of the worst rooms I have ever seen. Certainly not somewhere I wanted to spend any time.  I told her that I wanted to speak with the manager as I had requested and booked the 'better room'. She told me that there was nothing that she could do and even after talking to the manager that I would still have to stay in the room (how about a discount or a room upgrade guys? General customer service?). I was so upset. I immediately proceeded to look for alternative accommodation.... I must say this was stressful to do last minute but I couldn't bear the thought of staying in that room! The lady at the hotel couldn't care less so I asked multiple times to speak with the manager. If this was my hotel I would want to know why a guest left so upset. Unfortunately the manager didn't want to speak with me either. No apology no nothing. I am still in shock. If like me you are wondering if you should book this hotel, please save yourself the stress and book somewhere else.

The best thing about the experience was leaving and checking into another hotel which turned out to be absolutely stunning and in my opinion what he amalfi coast is all about.

What a fabulously friendly place to stay - Cecilia (to quote one of our fellow guests) is "the most helpful person in the world" - full of information about the area and clearly very proud of the place she comes from and Lorenzo, Antonio and Co went out of their way to make sure our stay was the best it could be - Lorenzo's lunches (and cocktails)were spectacular - clearly a very talented chef!! The hotel is small and intimate but with excellent outdoor space for lunches, the bar and the pool area.

Scala is a great location to explore the coast from - a short walk from Ravello (25 mins), a longer, but still manageable walk from Amalfi, Minori (an hour-ish) and beautiful mountain locations like the Valle de Ferriere. Ravello is spectacular - the Villas Rufolo and Cimbrone offer spectacular views of Amalfi Coast.

Definitely recommend a stay here - great hotel and fabulous location.

Big thank you to everyone for making our stay special.

Room Tip: Worth paying for the sea view.

You cannot fail to fall in love with this beautiful setting.

A great place to base yourself and explore the Amalfi Coast - but hire the smallest car you can get away with, as driving is not for the feint hearted!

The view of Ravello across the valley from our balcony was stunning.

Walk over in the evening, only a couple of km's - handy to work off the good food.

Plenty of steps from the carpark, so best to be relatively fit - but then there are plenty of steps in Amalfi..

Drink the Greco du Tuffo - great white wine.
