We came to the Amalfi Coast over Thanksgiving, and what a great place to visit! Minori is a hop-skip and a jump from Vesuvius, Pompeii, Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, and Sorrento (took a ferry to Capri from there).
The Villa Romana Hotel is centrally located in town, with a Solarium that has a sweet view of the ocean. The pool is nice (didnt get to use it, but i jumped in the ocean a few blocks away.) The room we had was spacious and clean with a jacuzzi tub we put to good use after long days of walking through Pompeii and hiking up Mt Vesuvius. Also our room overlooked the pool which was nice. The staff is courteous always said a Bon Giorno or Bueno Sera!!
Food and Drink:
The food was quite good!
The breakfasts had a generous buffet of different kinds of cereals, and yogurt or milk. And these delicious crossiants! They had amazingly rich nutella croissants, and also orange marmalade croissants (I gather they were purchased from the awesome pastry shop across the street). A few different breads, a meat and cheese platter with Ham, Salami and Provolone Cheese. A really good fruit punch like drink (great for a hangover), and grapefruit juice, coffee americana, or cappuccino, or tea.
Dinners had a nice selection of fish, veal or chicken or a vegetarian dish. They were quite delicious but small portioned, (which made me discover the pizza place down the block for late night snacks). The desserts were awesome though, we had a lemon parfait that was incredible, dont fall for the fresh fruit dessert though, they just give you a few pieces of fruit on a plate. A banana, pear and orange (not even cut up). It became kind of a running joke to see peoples faces when they ordered it later in the week.
The bartender Mauricio always poured a strong drink (about 5 euros for Jack Daniels on the rocks).
The other guests staying there were very friendly and eager to share their tips and stories from travels earlier in the day before dinners.
The desk people were very helpful when we asked them about directions or advice. They gave us a Minori DVD when we were leaving, that was such a nice gesture!
The Town: Quaint and quiet (except for the last night they were having a celebration for a Saint im not sure which one, but had fireworks at 2am, haha! It was pretty cool to see a fireworks show from the rooms balcony)
A great candy shop/ pastry shop, across the street. And a awesome pizza restaurant called Altamarea at the end of the block on the beach (I am dreaming about one of the prociutto pies right now). There is a good gelato/coffee shop right on the beach, and the beautiful Villa Romana ruins you should check out
Driving:
The Hotel offers a garage at 15 Euro a night (Cheap compared to NYC parking, haha!). Its very safe, and not a scratch on the rental car.
Wow driving the SS163 cliffside roadalong the coast was something to remember, and the views were spectacular!!! A couple of tips, drive with your window open if you can, buses will honk before the come around a sharp corner (plenty of those). When you hear a honk, stop and try to get over to the side as much as possible. When you are driving also pay attention to those mirrors on the sharper turns, and at night flash your highbeams into the mirors to alert oncoming drivers. Its amazing how the Italians fly on those little cliffside roads...if someone is trying to overtake you, pull over and let them by, they probably know the road like the back of thier hand.
