I booked the Kalergis Studios for our week in Naxos based on reviews here and elsewhere. We had a delightful stay at St George’s Beach and this little studio really was our home away from home. The beds were comfortable, the shower was hot, the fridge cold, the TV worked and the towels were replaced and room was cleaned daily (which makes a difference when staying so close to the beach – having the marble floors cleared of the sand daily was great!). The rate was incredibly reasonable, too, (which may have something to do with our stay being nearly a week and it was the beginning of October).
Our host and ‘guide-in-all-things’, Michailis (Mike), was a gem – a smiling, welcoming face who helped on a number of occasions with advice and recommendations. In particular, we relied on him to steer us in the right direction when looking to hire a car (there are SO many car hire companies in Naxos Town, it can be a little overwhelming). He arranged for Theo to deliver us a car the morning we required it. Theo, whose office is in the main square of town, gave us pick of any of his cars all at the same ridiculously low rate that included full insurance (and no hidden extras). With the car came a great map that Theo had produced and lots of sage advice about the best way to visit the different areas of the island.
The location of the studios was perfect, right on St George’s beach, at the Naxos Town end. All of the rooms have either a balcony (for first and second floors) or a garden patio (for the ground floor studios). It was so relaxing sitting on our little balcony of an afternoon watching the people on the beach as the sun went down, while we had a cool pre-dinner drink and nibbles (purchased from one of the many nearby supermarkets).
The only negative thing I can think of us that there was no wireless internet available at Kalergis. There is, however, a number of internet cafés around, the closest being 20metres away. But for those unlike myself, who can leave the internet behind on holiday, this wouldn’t be an issue!
I highly recommend Kalergis Studios for your stay in Naxos. If we are ever back here (and I really hope we return), we will definitely stay here.
