“Nicest staff in Naxos!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We booked this hotel when we where in a hurry just a couple of hours before arriving to naxos.

Once we entered I had the feeling that I was in a place that my mother would love and my grandmother would consider paradise. The extremely helpful and happy staff, the pastel colors everywhere, the comfortable heavy beige leather sofas, the warm sun invading the big dining room through arched windows, books and more books, the visual connection with the sea and the ruins of the temple create a great atmosphere where guests feel very welcome. The place stands out due to its location on a little hill overlooking the sea and near by islands. Staff is the most helpful you will find in greece!

The room 40 where we stayed for our first night had a nice balcony and also a window with views to the city and the sea. It is one of the best rooms they have for sure. When we decided to stay for 2 extra nights we had to move to room 12 that was also great but without a view. Rooms are quite neutral, spacious and very clean.

Breakfast was great with a big mix of diferent local specialties cooked by the "mama".

Location is great and you can walk to and from the port. I saw that the hotel also has a big car and they can pick you up on request ( for free I believe).

I can only say good things about this place and I would stay there again despite the fact that I found its style to be a bit old fashioned. I believe that it will please anyone specially mature and very mature couples.

We stayed for three nights at the Grotta hotel in August, and our stay was amazing! You feel like you're at home there, but nicer. Nikolletta is warm, generous, helpful, and goes out of her way to help. She sent us a taxi to pick us up formn the port and drop us off after check out. Received us warmly on check in with drinks and cake and explained everything to us. The room was nice, clean, and cozy with a wonderful view. The breakfast was awesome, with variety that puts five star hotels to shame. All in all, a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: The ground floor room balcony opens on the parking, so if you want nice unobstructed view take a top...

Thanks to the excelent reviews that we read in this site, we went to Grotta Hotel. First the nice and smiley reception of Nicoletta, she took us to the balcony in front of the see and served us cakes and something to drink. This hotel is directed by a sister and a brother , who care for all your and every one's needs,Their mother is the cooker, and at brakefast you can eat wonderful meals with the mother's cakes. The crew smiles all the time and you fill at heven!!!
The location of this hotel is excellent, the rooms are very nice and quiet, After we travelled a lot in Greece, we want to come back to stay only in this place for a week!!!

My husband and I spent only one night at hotel Grotta but we wish we could have stayed longer. We loved Naxos city and the nearby villages but we loved Hotel Grotta even more. Nikoletta is incredibly welcome and helpful. They do everything from free pick up from the ferry, welcome you with a drink and give you great tips to see the island. We came back to a carafe of wine made by Nikoletta's dad and watched the sunset from our balcony overlooking the ocean.

The breakfast was the best spread we saw our whole time in Greece--bring your appetite! The hotel is conveniently located a few minutes from downtown Naxos. Naxos city is an amazing place and we wished we could have stayed longer. Save time to get lost a bit and walk along the boardwalk.

Thanks to Hotel Grotta for welcoming us to Naxos--we can't wait to come back!

We recently spent 3 nights at the hotel Grotta. The hotel is extremely well run , very clean and has very helpful and enthusiastic staff and the welcoming drop of Papas wine was a nice touch. The room was clean but basic , the bathroom ( shower , toilet, basin ) was very compact , not good if you are a big person. The view of the temple of Apollo and sunset from our room was a bonus. After exploring the town we liked the St.Georges beach side of the town but one will expect to pay a lot more" . The breakfast buffet which has been much mentioned on this site was generous and if you like pastries there are plenty. The volume on the tv in the room was set at a very low level which was annoying if you want to listen to a program. All in all a great place to stay for the price.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper level with a sea view.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel from August 12th to 16th for our honeymoon. We cannot say enough about how kind, warm, and inviting the lady who runs the hotel was. Sorry, forget her name. We were picked up from the port, which is a very short distance from the hotel, by a taxi. The hotel staff pay for the taxi ride. While we waited to check in, we were offered a drink from the bar and given delicious homemade spinach pie. The owner then sat down with us and thoroughly went over a map of the island, giving us a very good idea of where to go and what to do. There is a swimmable beach in the main part of town only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The location was really perfect.

The hotel room was a nice size, with a beautiful view and a large balcony. I am pretty sure we only paid for garden view but we got an ocean view. Perhaps we were upgraded because of the honeymoon status. After going out for lunch the first day we came back to the hotel to be nicely surprised with a bottle of champagne and a letter from the owner wishing us a happy honeymoon.

The breakfast buffet was fantastic! I believe the Grandma bakes many of the pastries and cakes. Everything seemed home made. They had such a large variety of delicious cakes and pies, eggs, fruits, yogurt, cereals, breads... We will certainly miss the breakfasts!

We rented a car the second day in Naxos and drove around to explore the island. We found some quiet and beautiful beaches driving down the coast. We saw a few of the sites that the hotel owner highlighted on the map. The roads are poorly sign posted though so we didn't get to everything as we found it difficult to navigate.

There was a pool indoors at the hotel right next to an open door area with loungers. We loved the beach a lot in Naxos so we did not spend any time at the pool but it looked nice and relaxing. The hotel has a bar where you can order drinks for very reasonable prices.

The restaurants in the main town are very good. I can't remember the name of the one that we went back to 3 times. It was on the boardwalk on the left side with the port, about 5 or so restaurants to the right as you walk from the path to town from the hotel. It had a greek name. The owner is always standing outside welcoming people in. They had genuine fresh pasta and a stone over for pizza, both of which are delicious. The owner also makes his own wine which was really good, a hard find in Greece in my opinion as I found many wines to be sour.

We would definitely go back to Naxos, it was a nice change from busy Mykonos and very nice for honeymooners. I would also definitely stay at Hotel Grotta again and recommend it to anyone!

Hotel Grotta is a friendly, elegant yet relaxed, spotlessly clean hotel that reflects the pride of the family that owns and works so hard. The rooms are beautiful and if you don't get the sea view, the garden view is beautiful too.
And mama's cooking! This is the best breakfast buffet that you can get almost anywhere. LOVE this hotel and the value and effort they put into making your stay perfect. HIGHLY recommend it.
