“Ideal 'en route' stop off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We stayed at the Altkolnischer Hof for one night en route from Austria to the UK. We booked one of the superior Four Poster bed rooms, Lovely! Room and bathroom fine, breakfast OK but that's not what makes this hotel stand out - it's the service that will linger in the memory alongside the lovely village which is Bacharach.

It's hard to separate my feelings about this hotel from the fact that I loved everything about Bacharach... so I would have been happy in a shoebox. Fortunately, that was not the case. Everything in this warm and inviting hotel was perfect. The atmosphere was old world, but the service was first rate. We had a room with a balcony, and the staff prepared a cheese plate for us to eat in the evening with our local Rhine wine. It was all the stuff of fantasy.

The restaurant served delicious breakfasts and dinners. Possibly the best in the city.

One word of caution: if your luggage has wheels and you're planning on walking to the hotel from the train station (and I'm not sure there's any other way), be prepared to make a lot of noise. The cobblestone street announced our late night arrival from blocks away!

When you walk in the front door of this hotel it might as well be 1700.
Large wood beams, murals on the walls and windows that make you wonder who has looked through them over the years. The reception desk is in the resturant. That's different.
Then you go up to your room. Everthing is new and spotless.Very comfortable beds and a very modern bath. The view from the balcony is amazing.
Now for the best part. The people who run the hotel and resturant are some of the nicest folks we have ever run across. They were helpful with tips and directions around Bacarach. A sort walk to the cruise baots and train station complete the package..

By the way, the resturant in the hotel is very good

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony....Climb every thing you see. The views are amazing......

23rd October 2014. Warm greeting. Very "gemutlich" hotel on corner of street in gorgeous Bacharach. You can unpack your car outside hotel. Then they give you a notice to place on the dashboard and you drive about 200 metres down the street to the hotel's car park. Kids had room 7 - decent size, comfortable. We had room 20 - slightly smaller, but with a balcony overlooking the street (quiet). Impeccably clean rooms with good beds; individual duvets on the double beds. Great bathrooms; excellent showers; fluffy towels..all well thought out and all good quality fittings. Decent breakfast too. A nice base hotel in a lovely old town on the nicest part of the Rhine (apparently - I have only "done" the Mid Rhine, but connoisseurs tell me it's the best bit).

Room Tip: Room 20 was decent - nice balcony

My husband and I stayed here for one night in September 2014, while traveling by train through Germany. It was an easy walk from the train station about 15 minutes to the hotel, slowed only by the cobblestones and a stop at the tourist information office. We arrived too early for check in, but the hotel owner/manager was happy to store our luggage and we explored the town until our room was ready. The owner then took us upstairs to personally show us the room for our approval. The room was huge! It was on a side of the building away from the Main Street and very quiet. There were beautiful thick towels, and even washcloths! Very nice bed linens. A sofa and extra chairs to create a nice seating area. Flat screen TV with plenty of channels, which we barely had time to watch. Everything was clean and well maintained in the room and really in the entire hotel.

We asked if the hotel had any bicycles we could borrow and we were loaned at no cost, 2 great bikes so that we could spend the rest of the afternoon riding on the trail along the Rhine!

The hotel has free wifi, an elevator, and breakfast was included in our stay. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful in a really neat dining room.

Wish we could have stayed longer. We would highly recommend the Hotel Altkolnischer. We had an easy walk downhill from the hotel to our departure at the landing where we caught a tour boat for the next leg of our adventure.

Gee you won't miss your hotel, just look for the pretiiest one when you drive in! Real wow factor. Drop your bags off at the front and the parking is along the main street on the right, youll see a hotel sign, 5min walk. We booked a room with a verandah which was excellent, we spent alot of time out there with the baby and drinking some local Riesling watching the town go by. The room it self was bigger than expected and very comfortable, really good bathroom! None of the comments we added were ready when we arrived but the cot soon came (extra 10E a night, the only hotel on our trip to charge for a cot!) and eventually a kettle came so we could make formula for the baby. The family were always nice to us, saying hello and it felt very comfortable staying there. Breakfast was good. We had dinner in one night, which I was really impressed with. The Sauerbraten and the Venison were so rich and delicious, beautifully plated. It was very hard to get service after the dinner was delivered, our drinks were empty forever, we eventually found all the staff in the other room and asked if they could bring us more drinks. The dining room has a real wow factor, very old and grand looking. Becareful in town, everything closes very early. We are used to dinner at 8 or 9 and we adjusted back to 6 as restaurants looked they wanted to close at 9! To the left up the mainstreet is a little market for your basics. But if you have a baby bring your own nappies and formula as the market is small. Whata great little town, do the castle wall walk, great views. Just lovely.

Room Tip: Get a verandah for extra living space.

We stayed one nit at the hotel, it has a free parking. The staff was very friendly and the room was good. The breakfast is awesome, the best milk chocolate I've ever taste. If you want to know the Rhine Valley, you should stay in Bacharach at least one night, awesome place!
