“Beautiful museum - great for kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2011

We were staying at Great Wolf Lodge and looking for something to do on a beautiful day. This was a great choice! The indoor portion of the museum is great for kids...educational and they don't even realize it! And the outdoor portion is beautiful...a long boardwalk thru the woods that takes you past animals of Virginia. We also did the planetarium, which both kids didn't want to do, but said was fun/interesting once we were done. This is a great way to spend a few hours on a beautiful day!

“A surprisingly enjoyable experience. Definitely worth seeing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2010

My husband and I spent a week in Williamsburg and I dragged him to this museum on one of the colder, rainy days of our trip. Although he was reluctant to go, we both ended up having a great time there. The VLM offers a large outdoor boardwalk that takes you through several animal habitats such as wolves, beavers, otters, waterfowl, foxes, eagles, etc. We especially enjoyed watching the "busy" beavers building their dam, constantly swimming back and forth with mouthfuls of sticks and mud, then tramping down their piles with their large flat tails. There were also numerous indoor exhibits that were really fascinating to observe...the bees on their honeycomb, the huge aquariums. They also have a hands-on area where you can touch various creatures such as horseshoe crabs. It's not really a zoo, and it's definitely more than just a museum. It was a little pricey, but we both thought it was very well put-together and ultimately worth the cost. We look forward to coming back with our children next year...they'll love it! This place is definitely worth checking out if you are staying in the area, especially if you love animals or have children.

“A great place for everyone in the family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2010

When we headed to Williamsburg Virginia for a week of vacation we did not know this place existed. Our daughter found a brochure for the VLM at our hotel and insisted we had to go. We were planning to visit the Hampton Roads Harbor Tour one morning and the VLM was nearby so we decided we would visit the VLM that afternoon. We arrived at the VLM around lunchtime so we ate at the Wild Side Cafe in the museum. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. We then spent the rest of the day touring the museum. Everything here is very well done. The exhibits were great and very interesting. We really enjoyed seeing so many different animals up close. This museum has outstanding volunteers. No matter where you are there is always a volunteer nearby to answer questions and educate you about what you are looking at. They were all friendly and it really added to the experience. We toured the entire museum both inside and out. We were there until the museum closed for the day. If you are anywhere near this museum we would really recommend that you visit here.

“kids love it too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2010

Our whole family enjoys this museum and we have gone several times. The indoor animal exhibits are organized by habitat (caves, hills, etc). Outside you can walk along a great long boardwalk that winds around over land and water and see lots of other animals.

“Great place to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2010

We love the VLM. We are members and have been for almost 10 years. On cold or rainy days it's just the thing to do to get out of the house for a bit. My children love going around the museum several times each visit. Membership pricing is worth the $ when you factor in how much a day ticket will cost. For a family (everyone living in the house) and 3 additional guests it's $110.00. That is membership for a full year and gives you discounts in the cafe and the gift shop. Great learning experience for the kids and a great mini getaway.
