“Tough to find, but worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014 via mobile

As noted in other reviews, this is a local hole-in-the wall that is difficult to find, but is well worth the effort for a good, inexpensive meal. It's located in a strip mall behind a Burger King (much better burgers, though). The proprietors are quite friendly; I was a bit surprised at how few people were there but came in early. I had the chipotle chop, which was a pork chop combined with a chipotle patty in a burger bun; it's one of their regular menu items. I was going to try the chipotle chuck burger, which would have replaced the chop with a beef chuck patty, but they were out of the black bean spread it came with. (By the way, I applaud them for the choice of chuck for their burgers; I raise my own cattle and believe that's the cut that makes the best ground beef due to its fat content.). The sandwich came with a choice of sides, potato salad, pasta salad, chips or slaw, all of which are made there except the chips. I went for the potato salad and it was excellent. The only downside (other than distance from where I live) is the lack of an ABC permit, but the unsweetened tea was good and I can occasionally do without a beer or glass of wine at dinner I guess. Eat here if you are in the neighborhood.

“WONDERFUL PLACE TO EAT!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

What a little gem of a restaurant in Newport News. Actually, Midtown Eats was recommended to me by a waitress at another restaurant.....odd huh? LOL. However, we need more places that are not chain restaurants and more locally owned. This place is great! The burgers were fantastic and had ingredients and combinations of flavor you will never see at a chain restaurant. Everything was fresh, tasty, and interesting. I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. The service was wonderful. Do yourself a favor and check out this place. You won't be disappointed.

“Great Alternative to Chain Restaurants”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

I eat here minimum once a month and more like once every two weeks- the food is crafted with care and is fantastic. Mark, the owner, does a great job keeping the menu interesting and fresh with the daily specials. I appreciate that they strive to source all ingredients locally. The chicken salad sandwich is my favorite and the specials have never disappointed. Give it a try!

“Great little place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014 via mobile

My family gas been to ME three times and had great food each time. I love the hand formed burgers--especially the one with BBQ sauce and carmelized onions. The sides are small and there aren't many choices, but we don't go there for the sides. Staff is great. The place is tiny and if you blink, you'll miss it, but it's great.

“Absolutely Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

This is the place for some great food. A restaurant business is a tough one to start up - sometimes you have to start small. This is a true hole-in-the-wall location, but the food and service is one of the best around here. Everything is fresh and delicious. Enjoy!
