“Food is so fresh!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

This was an enjoyable meal.

The food is excellent. Most of the vegetables are locally grown. The fish and poultry were locally sourced. The chef's gentle loving care for the food that he is serving was apparent with each course of the meal.

The service was attentive --- just right. She anticipated needs for refills without waiting for a request. She was happy to make recommendations (one of my pet peeves is a server that will not share their opinion). Really happy with the service.

It is a small restaurant and VERY popular. As a result, it gets quite crowded and becomes somewhat loud. Because of the atmosphere, I would not consider it for a special occasion unless it is a weeknight.

It is a fantastic restaurant that I highly recommend.

“Superb Food and Very Nice Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

We visited Fin Seafood in Newport News for the first time this week and were very impressed with the quality of the food and its superb preparation, the very capable staff (we were served by Matt) and the very nice atmosphere of the restaurant. They have both inside and outdoor seating and do take reservations - which I recommend. Their menu is somewhat unique as they feature a 5 and 7 course tasting menu (with wine pairings if desired) daily as well as a regular menu. We opted for the regular menu as we had other plans after dinner and ordered the famous She Crab soup and a “deconstructed” Caprese salad for appetizers. The She Crab soup equaled the best we have ever had in the greater tidewater area and we have tried it practically everywhere. It is a must to try. The salad was very good and was presented in an interesting way. We almost ordered the Grilled Romaine Caesar Salad but tried the deconstructed salad as it was a special and is not on the regular menu. A quick note after ordering hot bread was served with very good quality olive oil in a small dish for dipping. The bread was homemade and had a salted crust and both the bread and the oil were first rate. We ordered two main courses: The Flounder and lump crab meat over creamy polenta and assorted vegetables. The Flounder was cooked to perfection as was the crab. Both seafood items were moist and flavorful, as good as I have ever had. The Chilean Salmon was equally well prepared and came with creamy polenta and root vegetables including small carrots, sliced beets, and mushrooms in a flavorful sauce. We looked at the dessert menu and they had a strawberry shortcake listing with strawberry sorbet which we shared. It was very good and the sorbet was really terrific. I will go back and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area or visiting in the area. It is first rate. Give it a try.

“Average Selection of Seafood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

Was looking for a seafood restaurant and I found this place. The selection of different types of seafood was lacking. I ended up not eating seafood at all, and ordered what the waiter recommended and it was the lamb. Very surprised when I received just 2 little lamb chops as the main entree. The meat was good, but the seasoning was lacking. I was in the main dining room and it did seem like everyone in there was enjoying the bar area, so maybe that is the better option.

“Very good for Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

Lunch last Friday, late about 2:30 PM. Restaurant had very good wait staff [Conner] and a full staff in the kitchen. Got the 3 course lunch for $15. and with the lettuce wedge, fish tacos [ 2] and the push pop for desert it was not only a bargain but very good food. Will travel down to Newport News to visit again
