“Nice Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Had our Family reunion cookout there. The park is huge and nice for kids to have something to do. It was a rainy day so didn't get to enjoy as much as I would have liked.

“Campground Facilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Beautiful surroundings .... Clean .... Pet friendly, too. We noticed the rangers' presence which was reassuring. Bath houses nice.

“Park with trails, history, fishing, camping and hiking...hard to beat!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Newport News park is a must see. It is the site of the famour Pennisula Campaigns battle of the #1 Dam. Several regiments of Vermont Soldiers fought here and two Congressional Medals of Honor awarded...one to a drummer. Incredibly the story includes a Soldier who was just pardoned from the firing squad for sleeping on picket duty (guard). He swore he would do his utmost to prove himself to the President himself to thank him for the pardon. He was killed at this battle. The interpretive trail is excellent and provides a good view of the action for anyone visiting. This is also a nice park to camp at with hundreds of sites for all types of camping. Long range mountain bike trails, separate hiking trails and a nature museum thats great for kids. Large playgrounds and a long dock to fish off of. Mind your speed as the Rangers are very bored and dying for some action, but otherwise its ideal.

“Biggest and best park this side oif the Mississippi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

You could easily tell this Memorial Day weekend how great this park is just by how hard it was to find a parking spot! Even at over 500 acres, this park filled up...but yet did not fill "crowded". This was due to the separations of various pavilion and picnic areas, plenty of trails, and a fantastic lake and Frisbee golf course. They also have rentals for bikes, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats; so no need to drag out a bunch of equipment to have a good time. Everything is already at the park for you! Also, the park has many geocaches, that are a fun distraction as well. The park also has many educational and entertainment events throughout the year. If you haven't been yet, you are really missing out!

“Love the Newport News Park off Jefferson”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

They have a camp ground. They also have a wonderful lake to fish in with boat rentals. They have play grounds every where for kids with alot of sheltors and place to cook out. Walking trails with bridges to walk over. Just a nice place for FREE to hang out and enjoy the air and the day outside. Love this place.
