My fiance, his 10yr old daughter & myself had stayed at the Howard Johnsons in Virginia Beach from 06/10-06/15 & it was wonderful. We were flying out of Newport News Virginia on June 16th so we figured we'd drive up & stay at a hotel close to the airport. Since we were already staying at a Howard Johnsons we figured we'd stay at the same franchise. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!! Upon arrival our 10yr old wanted to swim, the desk clerk stated the pool was being cleaned & was unavailable at that time. We decided to check it out anyway, I don't think they had cleaned it yet that year. The pool was green, I wish I would have taken pictures because what they advertise above is totally opposite, there is trash & buckets all over no lawn chairs, an ironing board laying out there as well. We ended up going to our room & the 10 yr old found some empty soda cans in the room. We were on the lower level & from the time of check in until leaving in the early a.m. the trash on the upper level hung over the balcony. There were some woman hanging around outside of what I assume was their room. They had about 4 kids with them. As it became dusk the "activity" became more frequent. The room these woman were staying in had several visitors, so did other rooms. These 4 children were hanging out in the parking lot & around peoples cars until 3am. I know this because we didn't sleep all night due to the noise of cars coming & going, slamming of car/room doors, people yelling, car alarms going off. My fiance slept at the opposite end of the bed with the curtains drawn just enough so that he could see out so that our rental car did not get messed with. Earlier in the night a couple guys were wandering around near it & when he went outside they turned & walked in the opposite direction. Our 10 year old woke up in the middle of the night with what I believe was a panick attack due to the outside activity. Our first & last impression of this hotel is Drugs & Prostitution. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone & I would never stay there again.
