“In a word: OUTSTANDING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

Wow! What a cool museum! Very interesting and educational. Lots of maritime artifacts, exhibits, stories, and dramatic theaters. Excellent for the whole family. Guys will really like the cannons, life on the recreated ships and experiencing the ship battle theaters. The recreated first-ever iron clad ships of Monitor and Merrimack, and the Civil War sailors' life on board, are fascinating. There's not too much to see so that it becomes overwhelming but plenty to spend a good 2-3 hrs exploring. One of the best maritime museums I've been in.

“Decent collection...but confusing layout...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Ok, I hadn't been here in MANY years, but due to this event we opted to take a look around.

http://marinersmuseum.org/beerFest

Again, the aforementioned event was taking place and we strolled around the museum....BOATS, and MORE boats!
Some of the parts are in a part of the building kinda "behind" the main building part...as we were trying to return to the front...it was slightly confusing and not well labeled for exit/entry.

You can see the controls, NAVY bunks/bed areas...a lot of pics...there is a really calming nature trail/park with a small body of water on the property. There is a TON of free parking, a nice gift shop, and a neat treat called Thursdays by the Lake ( I think we will RETURN soon for THIS).

Weekly on Thursday nights ---- June 6 through August 29, 2013 • 6 p.m. - 10 p.m

Please note, this center is CLOSED on Tuesdays...I found that odd.
AAA or MILITARY can save on the admission fee...

If you are a HISTORY buff, then this is the PLACE for YOU.

“Very Good Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

We spent the better part of a day here, and still did not manage to see all there was to see. We spent a lot of time in the exhibit concerning the USS Moniter, which was superb. For civil war buffs, this will be a real treat. One of the other exhibits that I personally really enjoyed was the one of the miniature, intricallly handcarved, wooden ships. There were several other exhibits, that we did not get to. Another trip hopefully

“Very nice - great way to spend a few hours!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Very impressed - was surprised how quickly the time passed.
The Monitor exhibit is the centerpiece - even more so than I anticipated.

“This is one great museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013 via mobile

All things maritime....a history of navigation, 18th century battles, the Civil War and recovery of the USS Monitor (including major pieces being restored), the Titanic, miniature ships, a wide variety of small vessels from dugouts to Chris-Crafts......all in excellent multi-media displays. I spent three hours here and I rarely take more than an hour for a museum.
