“Ski Total chalet, fantastic hosts/service, average accomodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2012

Booked via Ski Total website which was easy. Chalet needs an update as there is no wi-fi (as advertised in brochure), no music (could do with a radio plus iPod dock), general lack of storage for clothes and just a small old TV with DVD player. Get the impression the owner does not want to spend money on bringing the chalet up to a higher standard! On the positive side, the hosts, Ben and Alex were excellent and could not try to do more to make their guests feel at home and help them enjoy their stay. The quality of the cooking was high but the wines were cheap and tending to high acidity. A good 20 minute walk to the nearest lifts (Chaudanne) but a minibus shuttle service in the morning and late afternoon helps a lot - particularly look out for the driver guy who is a really helpful character as long as you show your appreciation and chat to him in a friendly way. A Spar shop approx 5 mins walk up the road if you need to buy anything. Plenty of nightlife in Meribel but tends to be expensive for what it is. Dicks T bar just 5 mins walk up from the chalet but other nightlife is a 10 to 15 minute walk away.

Room Tip: There is a quite noisy stream by the side of the chalet (mainly affects rooms 1,2 and 5). Room 1 a d...

I don't know what the other reviewer is on about! We stayed in Chalet Cote D'Arlin in Meribel during the frst week of the 2010/11 ski season and we could not fault it. We paid about £433 pp for the whole holiday (not inc lift passes) through Iglu/Total Ski and the chalet was therefore super value for money. We stayed in Room 5 on the second (top) floor which had a seperate bathroom just next door and the room and bathroom were great - no problems at all. Room 4 and 5 are the cheaper rooms because they are not ensuite but they both have private bathrooms that are huge! We saw the ensuite rooms and they were not as good. I would book room 5 again. The roof slopes a bit so there is limited headroom near the wall but not a problem overall. The chalet girls Nina and Emily were awesome and took superb care of us and the food simply could not be faulted. The lounge area is comfortable, with an open fire and dinners in the evening were really enjoyable with canapes and aperitifs served at 1930! There is a boot drying room/kit room too which is good.
As for location, the main lift area (Chaudanne) is about a 15-20 min walk but you can get on to a slope to ski down to Chaudanne in about 10-15 mins walk from the chalet. That said, it is an uphill walk in the morning, so just get the Total Ski minibus service instead. This minibus service was superb and picked you up and dropped you off right at the chalet. We used to get the minibus in the morning and walk back from the closest slope in the afternoon (10 min downhill walk). There are also resort buses too which are free. Meribel Centre (shops, bars etc) is about 10-15 mins walk but in the evening the chalet is the best place to be in our opinion as wine is all inc!
As we got this chalet/holiday at a superb price we were really pleased with our holiday. As you go through the season the price varies greatly but that is the same everywhere and I would still stay at the Cote D'Arlin again.
Meribel overall is a rip off but the Tavern Pub near the post office is better value (pint, burger, fries - 10 Euros). Avoid buying anything at all in Courchevel if you get over there -daylight robbery, 2 x hot chocs=12 Euros. The skiing is good though.
Overall though I would say eat a huge brekkie, manage until tea and cake in the chalet at 4ish then have dinner at 1930. This will save you paying rip off Meribel prices.

The Chalet Cote D'arlin in Meribel is not 4 star/diamond/snowflake, it is stuck in time, and not of a good standard in furnishings or room options. At best it is 2 star. The hosts were great, but the company and chalet facilities are naff, bathrooms without showers, moldy and very outdated. Rooms with height restrictions not advertised, kitchen dreadful, living areas uncomfortable and inadequate space if chalet is full, which it was. The whole chalet is cramped and shabby.

Meribel is a great resort for all levels, this is well documented. What is not well documented is the standard of chalet being sold by operators to UK consumers.

We stayed with Ski Total and booked via Iglu.com. Iglu are useless in advising on the state of the chalet. They would not accept that it was falsely advertised and did not have "superior levels of style and comfort" that were apparent to our party of 5 and other guests staying in this chalet and other Ski Total chalets.

Our group will never book with Iglu again, because we did not get the standard we paid for. Iglu hides behind the claims that as chalets are not hotels and therefore not officially rated. Iglu also mis-led us during the booking on what the extra payments were for, as we were told that we had to pay extra for the double bed, but in fact that was the smallest room with the worst bathroom. They then said the extra was for the balcony, but all rooms in that chalet had balconies. Dreadful.
