“Les Dryades”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

Les Dryades is an apartment building located near the Rond Point station, at the top of Meribel. In terms of location it's almost perfect - close to the ski tracks and main infrastructure (supermarket, bakery, butcher, ski shop, two restaurants). However it is 15 min walk from the center, but you can easily go there by Meribus - a free bus circulating every 15-30 minutes.

I was staying in a small studio on the 1st floor (G4), and other members of the family - in a 2-level apartment on the 4th floor (G19). Apartments are small, but you are supposed to spend most of the time outdoors, so it should not be a problem. A problem was the amenities and service - concierge is not there all the time, and no soap/shampoo is provided. What I also did not like is that no blanket cover was provided, just two large bedsheets. And only one large towel per person... As a compensation you will find a greeting gift consisting of local specialties - in my case it was a set of local genepi liquor (25ml), small jar of blueberry jam and porc terrine. In G19 room there was a honey jar instead of terrine. You will be also provided with a universal cleaning fluid and a kitchen sponge. And still no soap or shampoo (it is just beyond my understanding).

A good thing about the building is that every apartment has a small locker on the ground floor where you can keep your sports equipment. A bad thing is that the walls are thin so don't expect a silent environment.

Please note that these are privately owned apartments, so the 'contents' of each apartment differ. E.g. in my room there was a nice Sony Bravia TV with USB, but in the other apartment there was no TV at all. Same goes for the sling chair for the balcony.

Overall impression is 4 out of 5.

The apartment of Agence des Neiges called Les Sappineaux is a very cozy accommodation right near the Morel chairlift (which is great!!!!!!). This chairlift gets you immediately to Altiport zone which I liked much more than Les Chaudanne. The bus station nearby is called Morel.
At first site Morel seems to be away from Meribel centre. But Meribel is really small itself and has no centre at all. The location in terms of night life is ok because very close to apartment you can find bars/restaurant with music and possibility to dance (Chez Kiki, Les Blue Lac etc.).
The apartment is situated almost in the forest and that is so nice to live surrounded by pine trees and and very good-looking small chalets - very romantic.
The room itself was extremely small like most rooms in the mountains but very clean. And besides initially Agence de Neiges provided us with some necessary domestic stuff and local specialities - it was really pleasant. Room had enough heating, had a very small kitchen with everything necessary, coffe machine, roaster etc. The bath was also for dwarfs but it is ok. On the ground floor we had lockers for skis etc.
The walls there are very thin, you can hear your neighbours very good - sometimes it is annoying.
But all in all it was one of the cheapest chalets, so good quality for reasonable money.

10 minutes of walking and you are down at Chaudanne. In some places they just refuse to understand English. We liked La Terrasse. Everything was not very cheap but tasty. We tries Raclette there - it is a very huge piece of cheese melting and pouring in a plate. You eat this with meat, bread, vegetables etc. Tasty, but too much!
