My husband, his parents, and I spent a lovely long weekend at Huffman House. This is a working farm, with sheep, horses, ducks, geese, turkeys, a few cattle, and even two donkeys grazing and meandering around the hillside. The grounds are beautiful, very hilly, with a creek running adjacent to the house. There is a rooster, and he does begin crowing early in the morning, but this did not bother us at all. The B&B is a renovated farmhouse, on which the owners Ron and Carol obviously spent a lot of time and effort. The result is a place that seems set back in time, but with all of the comforts of the 21st century. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the shower feels heavenly after an afternoon of hiking. There are many places to hike in the area, as the Appalachian Trail runs through the area about 1/2mile away from the B&B. Ron and Carol can suggest other places to hike, and you won't be disappointed. Southwest Virginia is absolutely gorgeous. Ron and Carol are also avid birders, and they have several active bird feeders set around the property. You can sit on one of their porches and watch the birds coming and going. The breakfasts are delicious and plentiful. Carol is a masterful chef. Our breakfasts included Baked French Toast (which my husband could not stop eating), Feta-Basil Egg Bake, fresh granola, yogurt, homemade baked bread, scones, and muffins, juice, and coffee. Delicious! There is always soda and bottled water available to guests in a guest refrigerator. Ron and Carol can also suggest some wonderful places to have lunch and dinner nearby. This is a place you will want to return to.
