“Great location & views of the harbour ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

We stayed 2 nights, 28/29 May in room 18 which is marketed as a superior room with a harbour view priced at 136 euros per night. This is definitely a 2 star hotel & nothing more. The reception & restaurant decor is more modern than the hotel rooms. The hall way on floor 2 smells of stale smoke despite being a non smoking hotel. Our room was a time warp, back to the 1980's. Not a great first impression as we expected it to be more up to date for the price but whilst very tired it was clean & tidy. The view across the busy harbour is great though.
Despite everything, our room had TV, free wifi, a safe and was a decent size for 2 people. The bathroom had bath gel & hand soap supplied, 2 towels (hand & bath) each and a fixed hair dryer. The shower is an over bath variety but has no shower curtain or screen so water gets all over the floor. We had a separate toilet within the room.
We didn't opt for breakfast here & instead used other nearby establishments. The restaurant never looked as busy as the others, many people seemed to be just having coffee or bar drinks during the day.
My advice - the private secure open air parking is a long way from the hotel itself so unload your bags at the door first then take the one way system to park. Whilst walking back to the hotel is a much shorter distance, it's still further than you think so avoid the aggro of carrying heavy bags if you can.
Also if you speak little or no French, one of the younger ladies speaks English. The owner, the older lady with grey hair doesn't seem to speak English & appears a little unhelpful even if you speak French to her!

“After 3 months I'm still appalled....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

I ordered a vanilla & chocolate creme brûlée (fairly pricey @ €8.50 so my expectations were high).
It was inedible. The definition of creme brûlée is "burnt cream" and familiar to all as a classic French dessert involving cream & vanilla with a burnt sugar topping achieved by one of three ways, a blowtorch, grill or red hot disc placed on top. Mine had seen none of these.
The worst part was the texture - due to the sugar on top having seen little or no sign of heat I was crunching raw granulated sugar which added to the overpowering sweetness of the custard cream. I returned the dish to the extreme annoyance of the owner who entered into an full scale argument insisting vehemently she had been making creme brûlée for 20 years (clearly incorrectly). We persevered in our opinion but she absolutely refused to accept the dish was unsatisfactory, refusing to remake it, offer an alternative or offer a refund. I regret to say we relented and left, the scene she had created was creating an unpleasant atmosphere for the other customers.

“Excellent meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

We ate here, just wanting a main course, as we'd eaten so much everywhere else! We both had sole meunière and it was delicious, perfect for what we wanted. Restaurant was busy, but staff were good, and squeezed us in despite not booking. Very enjoyable.

“Great for a bite to eat ... and people watching”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

This became a regular family meeting point in St. Martin - lovely spot for a beer after a hard days sitting watching the boats. On our last day we ate jambon fromage crepes and they were excellent.

“Good bistro food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Nice place for a meal, good typical french restaurant, went on our first evening, had moule, smoked salmon, seafood pasta and steak frites. Lovely view. It's not special but a good example of decent quality french food, far better than most places back home!
