We have a house nearby that we rent out in the summer to mainly UK visitors and so would welcome a friendly local restaurant to recommend to our guests. Unfortunately, L'Aile de Ré does not match expectations in any way. It has recently changed hands and the new owners have not kept up the standards of the previous restaurant which was known as La Bouvette. The main dish we ordered was brochette de gambas with frites and salade and what arrived was inedible - greasy, soggy chips, a tiny brown, tired salad and five pathetically small, overcooked prawns. Surprisingly, all the diners around us had two brochettes not one so we can only assume the owners thought by our accents we were not likely to return and shortchanged us. The desserts were clearly mass manufactured and bought in not made at the restaurant and were equally tasteless. And yet the owners have to cheek to charge the same as much better restaurants like L'Océan or Le Moulin à Café. Avoid this disappointing restaurant - not typical of the great food and welcome you can get on Ile de Ré.
