“Foncez: c'est magnifique!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

Charming charming little place on Ile de Re. For our first time on the island, I would say it was a great success. We had room 9, which is a two-bedrooms (one double and two single beds) with one bathroom (no shower) and a toilet, little terrace at the back and in the front: beautiful pool! It was heaven. Talking about the beds: I want the same back home! It was perfect confort. We slept really well in there. Cleaning ladies were lovely and the rooms are spotless. Breakfast was heaven too. Fresh orange juice every morning - as much as you like! - eggs and a variety of pastries and bread, very fresh products (even ham and cheese were tastier than back home!). As we stayed 6 nights, the only thing I would have to say about breakfast is that it could be a bit more varied: just changing bread sorts or pastries would not be difficult and it would give another taste to breakfast every morning. The other thing definitely missing in the room is some sort of fridge and/or tea/coffee facilities. Also, you have to pay extra for everything, which does not give a nice feeling. Coffee is extra, towels for the pool are extra.... It is a bit much, I think. The owners are lovely, but they are leaving this summer. I do not know about the next owner. We have met him but not long enough to tell. The young girl helping in the hotel who had just arrived a few weeks before us was very charming and helpful. Let's hope she stays there! The other quite surprising thing about that hotel is that there is no bar or hardly any. We knew there would not be any food other than breakfast but a bar.... we had quite a shock on arrival ;) These are little things compared to all the good ones anyway! Oh yes there is also possibility to book massage and so on but did no have the time to do it... Shame! It is supposed to be very nice from I have heard. Enjoy your stay!

A lovely little hotel with a chic ambiance and decor. Slightly pricey but that may be the way on Ile de Re. We hired a tandem bicycle and rode round the island, bought some food at the local farmer's market and had a picnic before coming back for a late afternoon dip in the pool!

This was a great place to stay if you are planning a trip to Il De Re mainly because it is extremely relaxed, walking distance to the beach (literally 5 minutes) and walking distance to the small town which has an excellent daily market. An extremely stylish hotel, the staff are very helpful and friendly which always adds to the experience. My only criticism which I am loathed to put despite people on here criticising places for the tiniest inconsequential things is that you literally have to pay for everything. I would rather they upped the price of the room and included wireless internet or coffee in the room. However nothing is included and it just tends to grate a bit on your nerves after a week! However this is only a tiny thing and I would strongly recommend people to stay here if they are considering staying in this amazing part of France.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms nearer the reception area as you can just wonder out of your room and easily access...

We stayed here for two nights in early September last year at the start of a 10 day road trip in France and Spain.

Ile de Re is a beautiful place and easy enough to get around whether by car or bicycle. The weather was fabulous while we were there so made our short stay even better.

Les Bois Flottais is located in the small quaint village of Le Bois Plage en Re which is in the south of the island about 10 minute drive from St Martin.

It is a small intimate set up with around 15 rooms all located at ground floor facing the two small pool areas. The decor is very quaint, simple and rustic in a seaside kind of way. The room was spotless.

We didn’t eat breakfast here at all so unable comment on that. It was an additional charge and we preferred to eat out as there were a number of nice cafes/bakeries nearby to choose from. The centre of the village is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. From all the places we stayed in France on our trip, breakfast was an additional charge so this seemed to be the norm.

We stayed in Room 5 and it was lovely, spacious and bright although it could do with some black out blinds or decent curtains as we were woken up very early due to the light in the room. On the hotel website in the photos of the Room section our room is the first one featured with the ladder up against the wall.

There was no fridge in the room which would have helped to keep water etc cool.

There was a complimentary car park to the front of the hotel although sometimes it was hard to find a space depending on the time of the day.

The hotel seemed busy while we were there and although we didn’t actually spend alot of time by the pool as we were out exploring most of the day when we did want to chill out in the late afternoon we did not have a problem locating loungers and it was very peaceful.

There were kids allowed in the hotel but for the most part they seemed to use the pool to the rear. The guests were a mix of couples and families. Our room overlooked the front pool.

We hired bikes one day from a local hire place in the centre of the village. Much cheaper than actually hiring from the hotel itself and absolutely no hassle at all. The guy renting the bikes was lovely and very helpful in planning our route and giving us suggestions. The island is really easy and safe to get around by bike as there are cycle paths pretty much everywhere which take you along the coast and through the vineyards.

The hotel was 5 minute walk from the beach which was lovely and deserted. It was long and wide and lovely golden sand. Beware as there were alot of rocks in the water in the particular spot we were in so not ideal for swimming.

The owners/managers we met did not have great English so not ideal if you only have basic French like me. Perhaps it was the language barrier but we did not find them particularly helpful when asking about restaurants/things to do in the area etc.

The rate per night for the room we stayed in was €125 and although we had an enjoyable stay I am not sure it was worth this but when we were initially researching someplace to stay, everywhere on the island seemed to be very expensive or booked out so it was difficult finding something cheaper although still of a decent standard. Although towards the end of our trip I realised absolutely everything is expensive in France even the average accommodation.

One of the nights we ate in a fabulous restaurant called L’Ocean which is also a hotel and from what we saw was worth looking into staying there if I ever visit again and want to stay in Le Bois Plage en Re. http://www.re-hotel-ocean.com/gb/restaurant-hotel-ocean/

The other night we ate in the main village on the island, St Martin de Re which is a lovely village located on the harbour with lots of restaurants overlooking the water. Very picturesque and pretty.

St Martin was always very busy and full of people at all times of day. We did end up spending alot of our time there which made us wonder should we be actually be staying here rather than having to drive/cycle here to get there but when there are so many lovely places to stay on Ile de Re you do not necessarily have to stay in the main town.

I spotted a couple of hotels on the edge of St Martin that looked attractive and worth checking out. One of them was http://www.le-clos-saint-martin.com/uk/index.php

I would definitely consider returning to Ile de Re again and I think it would be perfect for a long weekend although I would look to stay in another village to try someplace else particularly if you have a car to get around.

We stayed three nights at Les Bois Flottais. We loved the charm and warmth of the hosts and the beach chic style of the hotel. Our kids liked the two pools and biking in the town. The hosts helped us arrange the bike rentals.

Ile-de-Re was our last destination of a 2 week tour of the French Atlantic coast. Having never stayed on the island before it was a gamble with the objective to relax before return to work.

First impressions of the island while on the drive to the hotel were positive as we passed sunny beaches, pine forests and lots of people on bikes.

Finding the Hotel Les Bois Flottais was simple (help from TomTom) and the immediate impression was smart but very relaxed. As we were shown to our room which was lovely and spacious, cool and a few steps from the pool we knew we were going to have a good time (for the 4 nights we'd booked).

Hiring bikes from the hotel (or nearby shops) is a great way to get around, is less stressful than the car and you really get to see the delights of this island (flat paths through vineyards - unbeatable). With or without bikes, the hotel is within walking distance of beach, a fantastic market and also the village centre of La Bois which has a bar and a couple of restaurants. Within easy cycle distance (or drive) is St Martin (lovely port town with many shops and restaurants), La Flotte (port town and quieter than St Martin but lovely for it), La Couarde (very sleepy town with a couple of good restaurant options).

La Bicyclette was a great restaurant we found on the way back from La Flotte and really worth a visit for the food, atmosphere & hospitality.

The hotel (more of a collection of luxury beach huts as a previous reviewer wrote) really gave us what we wanted - a relaxed break in comfortable surrounds. The breakfasts were generous and gave a good foundation to the days activity (or laziness).

A mini fridge in the room would be a welcome addition just to keep drinks or picnic fodder cool but we managed easily without (plus with a good supermarket just down the road it's easy to refresh supplies).

All in a great place to stay in a lovely location. Highly recommend it and would love to return. In summary the objective for our visit was absolutely met!
