We stayed at the hotel for 1 week and by the 4th day we were looking into the possibility of moving hotels or bringing our flight forwards to go home early, as we just didn't want to stay there any longer because it was spoiling the holiday. Sadly, neither option was possible so we stuck it out and avoided the hotel apart from when we had to sleep!
The owners clearly wish they were not in this business- and so do we!
From the first to the last day they were unwelcoming & rude. The experience here is one of feeling like a very unwelcome house guest- yet you're paying for the pleasure. You feel awkward and in the way.
There is zero atmosphere. The main reason for this is because, though it is a 'hotel', there is no communal space for people to go to. The nice lounge, which is deceivingly featured on their website, is actually not for guests use. On arrival when we so much as set 1 foot in it to have a look, the owner popped out of his room and said quite firmly 'it's for breakfast'. Apart from at breakfast the door to the room is firmly shut and there is a note put on it just saying 'breakfast'.
As for breakfast- we would advise that you make it very clear when you book that you don't want it. We were quoted a rate that was a room rate then a separate rate for breakfast. We therefore understandably assumed that this meant that breakfast was optional, rather than being included with the room. On the first morning we had breakfast, for ease. It was very uninspired and served with zero charm. In fact, the breakfast offered is quite lazy (bad coffee, glass of juice, 1 croissant and a piece of bread) considering that literally 2 mins round the corner is an abundance of delicious fresh produce at the daily market- every pastry imaginable, fresh fruit galore and lovely French yoghurts at the deli a bit further down the street, all for v reasonable prices. We would recommend choosing your own breakfast selection here each day, getting a great coffee from the little van in the market and taking it all down to the harbour to eat it in the sunshine- we did and it was a truly perfect start to each day. However, the owner insisted that, although the rate didn't include breakfast, we had requested breakfast (we hadn't even been offered the choice at the time of booking) and therefore we had to pay for it!- so he made an extra 72 Euros out of us for nothing. Infuriating. He clearly sees breakfast as a money-spinner.
The rooms are tastefully done but are VERY basic and our shower room was absolutely tiny and an internal room, with v bad lighting, so was incredibly dark and claustrophobic. It's also been done too cheaply as the walls are ridiculously thin and we were kept awake night after night by snoring guests, which is frustrating when you've gone away for a rest!
The housekeeping left a lot to be desired- things seemed clean enough (though the lighting made it difficult to tell!) but our bed was barely made each day and we're pretty sure our bedlinen wasn't changed the whole time we were there- a whole week!
The only time the owner was chirpy with us was, literally, when we checked out and paid the bill- which said it all. He obviously can't wait to get the money in his pocket and see the back of his guests.
It's a shame really, as the location is great- in a quiet back street just a couple of minutes walk from the bustling centre of lovely La Flotte- but there are other places you can stay at to enjoy La Flotte's offerings.
