“unknown from most Paris visitors, SEnlis and its cathedral is a closeby wonder”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

the catherdral was used by medieval kings and certainly deserves, together with the medieval city and its museum, a half a day visit. It allows you to travel throughout time and admire how great past architects were with rudimentary technology...definitely a must see.
It is a mervelous gothic church with a splendi portal and high rising tower; the external facade looks like "dentelle" and is by itself worth the trip, while the dark inside is mysterious and captivating.

“older sister to notre dame in paris”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

begun two decades before her much larger, more renowned sister, the cathedrale notre dame in senlis, france is an elegant, well preserved example of high gothic style but on a comfortable scale. built in different styles over four hundred years, the church nonetheless retains her own sense of grace, devotion and permanence. we arrived on a cold foggy november sunday, arriving just in time for Mass, and although we slipped out to explore the rest of the town, it was a charming example of a small town french community: boy scouts in their muted yellow uniforms escorting people to seats, young giggling girls handing out the church bulletin, old timers murmuring quietly in their seats. we wandered under the watchful eyes of the saints as flickering candles bore witness to those who had also offered their prayers in this sacred space. our first french cathedral was an impressionistic dream in the morning mist of senlis, and its cathedral spire a useful landmark by which to orient and navigate through meandering cobblestone streets.

“Cathedrale de Senlis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

For France it is not extraordinarily beautiful, flamboyant Gothic with no particularly distinguished sculptures. The architecture is grand and the town of Senlis very pretty.
