“On business”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

I stay at this hotel on business on a regular basis. The hotel is in a great location for the Tunnel and close to the motorway. Calais centre is only 15 mins drive.
The hotel rooms are modern and large, with walk in shower, fridge and microwave. The tv offers free movies with great choice (new films) games and web radio. Free wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
The reception area and restaurant is also modern and very clean.
Would definitely recommend the hotel for anyone on business or taking a break on route back to the UK.

If you are looking for a place to stop at either end of a long drive and shuttle crossing, the location of this and the other hotels on the same site is ideal. Which you choose has a lot to do with your budget, the Suite Novotel being the most expensive, but there are often good deals available if you can book and pay in advance. Is it worth it? The word "suite" is one of those words that can mean what you want it to. In this case it probably means two standard Ibis rooms with the dividing wall taken out, and kitted out to a better level. The bathroom pod is well kitted out, the bed firm and comfortable, all the fixtures and fittings worked well.
Although there is no restaurant, it is a very short walk to the fairly decent bistro in the next door Ibis, or slightly further to the food court in the shopping centre. Breakfast is a strange affair. All the things you expect in a French chain hotel breakfast, but all except the bread prepackaged and in some strange combinations, though it was very helpfully explained by the staff member on duty.
There seemed to be plenty of parking for all three of the hotels on site, but we were there on a quiet November night.
Downsides - The carpet in the corridor will induce feelings of seasickness even if you have crossed under rather than on top of the channel and we are still not sure about the breakfast.
Would we stay there again? The advertised walk up rate for the Ibis was about the same as we paid in advance for the Novotel so if it was a planned trip we probably would, if we just arrived, then the Ibis would probably get our business

Having stayed at the ibis next door which I found to be fine it was definitely a step up staying at the suite Novotel this working trip to France. Spent ten nights here. Rooms are modern and spacious with double bed. Bath and shower and seperate toilet. Sofa and table and chairs. 32" tv with free movies and games.
Breakfast is pastries and petite pains as expected in France. They do little sandwich quarters in pots and crepes etc (sounds odd but its just to help them display the items.)
Coffee machines with proper ground coffee and as a first for me in France a boiled egg maker ( kind of like an electric water boiler with egg cages you hang from the sides) so you can have something hot if you like. Yoghurts an fruit an cerials also available.

All in a great place to stay. Super staff. Clean hotel and always pleasant atmosphere.

Bar open till 01:00 am.
And they have a selection of food like sandwiches, microwave meals (microwave and refrigerator in each room) deserts etc 24hrs a day in the reception area.

Close to the shopping centre Carrefour and its dining area with several restaurants. 10 mins drive to Eurostar terminal and less than 20 mins to the callais car ferry.

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel on three occasions and find it great value for money although to be honest isn't the cheapest on the site: there's an Ibis Budget and a normal Ibis as well. The rooms are quite big with many facilities that aren't normally available. It accepts dogs, which for us is a must, it's very close to the Tunnel terminal and perfect for an early morning get away onto the motorway system if heading south. The breakfast is expensive but it's possible to buy one in one of the inclusive packages, and is somewhat different from what one would expect in France. Car parking is great even with three hotels on the same site. My wife and I both feel that the restaurant is a bit disappointing - it feels like one of a large chain with little individuality about it, a bit ordinary is perhaps the best description although it does offer a regional dish and plat d'jour which change on a regular basis. Service has always been friendly and fast.

To reiterate it's not the cheapest but if you want space and indulge in a little self-catering it's ideal; there's a microwave, fridge and kettle in the room.

We stayed here at the beginning of November for one night. The welcome was warm and cheerful and we had a room on the top floor which was well equipped - the main room comprised a sink, kettle, sofa (converted to a bed), table and chairs, a dividing curtain between the main area and the bed, a good sized bed and various lamps. There was a small breakfast tray laid out for us as well as herbal teas, hot chocolate, coffee etc. The bathroom was clean and well equipped and included a bath fizzy tablet (!), cotton pads, shampoo, conditioner etc. The breakfast the next morning was slightly confusing - various things in jars in fridges, boil-your-own eggs, with an additional healthy breakfast provided for children free of charge. My only criticism is that I think we may have been placed on a smoking floor because there was a stale smell in the corridor and room, otherwise I'd recommend staying there and will be doing so again.

I do not like rushing for a late evening shuttle, prefering to stay overnight in Coquelles and then take an early morning shuttle. We usually stay at the Ibis next door but decided to pay a little extra for the Novotel Suites. We are so glad we did and will stay here again next June.

The receptionist/barlady could not have been more helpful. Our rooms were large with a kitchen/dining area (microwave, fridge, sink etc) and a marvelous bathroom with walk in shower. The beds/bedding combined to provide a good night's sleep. As we were at the back, I could see my car from the window, which also helped me to sleep easily.

Although ideal for self catering (and plenty of space for families with small children), we wanted to eat out. There is a small bar on the ground floor and we enjoyed a drink served by the receptionist. We asked her where we could eat without getting back in the car. She recommended that we just walk across the road past the side of the Gaumont cinema and we would be in the restaurant area of the Cite Europe. It took us 5 minutes and we had a choice of several restaurants.

The added bonus was the late opening of the Carrefor in the complex and so we were able to stock up on several French goodies to take home and buy a good breakfast. They do serve breakfast at the hotel, if you do not want to self cater. Up and away in the morning, we were in the shuttle queue within 10 minutes, fully refreshed for the journey back to Southport.

We (family of 4) stopped over a single night on our way to Paris. We used Suite Hotel before and were always happy staying there. However, this is the first time we visited since it added "Novotel" to it's name. The rooms are still the same, very spacious, very clean and well equiped. Added bonus was a Nesspresso coffee machine with a choice of coffee pods in the room - a fantastic and unexpected touch by the hotel! Well done! We will stay again.
