“Good Location but Disappointing Stay Out of Season”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2011

Was staying here while visiting the D Day beaches. Arromanches is a good central location for this.

The hotel is smart and clean, and reception staff were friendly at check in. The room was worth the 75€ we paid for it, but there were a few nibbling things:

- the Internet is free but only lasts for an hour so you keep having to go to reception for new log-in codes.
- the hotel shuts down at 10.30pm which means no bar, no drinks etc. That's ridiculously early. Out of season it means you are stuck in your room, as little else is open.

Otherwise the breakfast was good and parking free in the main square.

We absolutely loved this hotel. We were traveling to visit the places my husbands relatives fought and died in the war, this hotel was perfectly situated for this experience. Staff were welcoming and friendly and spoke English. The hotel was very clean and cosy, very rustic. Our room had a fabulous view of the beaches. Public car park available to the side of the hotel and because we arrived after 6p.m the car park was free until 9a.m the next morning so we only paid 2 Euros. A lovely hotel in a quant little town. We would definately recommend.

We stayed here for one night in August, as we were touring Normandy, i wish we had stayed longer. The hotel is in a perfect position right on the seafront promenade, our room and that of our daughter and son in law had sea views. All rooms are different size and shapes and we were pleased with ours, spacious clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were very helpful, told us that if we parked outside but left before 9.00am (which we were) as the barrier would be up we would not need to pay. We ate at the restaurant and had an excellent meal, even better because they had my favourite wine 'Quincy ' on the menu so we just had to have a bottle...or two. Two of our party shared the fruit de mer platter, it was fresh tasty and plentiful in fact it defeated them. As other reviewers have said the breakfast is a little expensive, but plenty of choice and buffet style so you can eat your fill. Next time we go to Normandy we will definitely base ourselves here.

A perfect location, small, corner, room, half-board yummy. We enjoyed our two nights and would stay again because the location, right on the beach is perfect. The staff were cordial and helpful to include the restaurant staff, but busier and therefore without time for small talk.

We did not stay in the hotel but ate in the restaurant and we really enjoyed our meal. The lobster was one of the best meals we ate in France. The food was far superior to that in a nearby Michellan star restaurant!

Service wasn't very memorable but we had a great view of the sea.

My wife and I decided to stay at the hotel the last night of our trip to Normandy. The receptionist at check in was very friendly, helpful and efficient. We stayed in Room 350 that had an amazing view of the beach. Our cost was 90 Euro. The room was small but clean. The only real gripe about the room was the mattress was like sleeping on plywood. Overall the hotel part of the stay was good.
The restaurant is a different issue. The food was bland and expensive. The wine list was not very good and also very expensive. Worse was the service. We had one waiter for the first part of the meal and then he changed tables. The second waiter was horrible. Our food was late and cold, he changed the order and when we had difficulty communicating he didn't ask for help but did whatever he wanted. The service in the restaurant ruined our stay. If we had chosen to eat somewhere else I would rate the hotel well. As it is the service was atrocious to the point of being ridiculous.
Stay at the hotel, eat anywhere else.

This is supply & demand in action. Apart from a coffee shop round the back you are trapped. Hence they charge exorbitant prices for very mediocre food and that sort of poor service which when done in France looks efficient but is actually rubbish. Stay for the view then escape for meals.b
