“Essential for any trip to Normandy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

For anyone travelling to Normandy to discover more about D Day then this museum is essential for everyone.
Set on one floor the number of exhibits and information can easily take up to two hours to get through. Guided talks in French and English are available which helps explain the operations on D Day and, more relevant given the location, the construction of the Mulberry harbours, which can be viewed though the panoramic windows at the front of the museum.
Such was the amount of information available that there were a few surprises about D Day - did you know that Luxembourg and the Czechs had forces in operation on D Day and the subsequent weeks?
It cost €7.50 entry fee but this was more than excellent value for what you see in here.

“Probably the best history museum in Normandy.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We especially enjoyed the diorama showing the entire Arromanches beach with the prefabricated harbors. The visit provides visitors with an idea of the magnitude of preparations necessary for D-Day.

“A shame about the coach groups”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Oh dear, this wonderful museum was full of groups disgorged from coaches of all nationalities and ages . A tour group leader must have walked into me at least 4 times! Having said that, the museum is well worth a visit and for me the highlight was the scale model of the Mulberry Harbour.

“A nice quick burst of information!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

We stopped here briefly to see the movie/slide show on a full day of Normandy beach stops and it was very interesting. A little discussed (but essential part) of the post D-day push into France. The engineering is just amazing and the artificial harbor is fascinating, but it definitely doesn't require too much time. And seeing the remnants in the harbor outside the museum reinforces the enormity of the accomplishment.

“Interesting but just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

While there were a couple of interesting displays where I learned a few new tidbits, most of the museum contained common knowledge. The film was informative but the cheerful, upbeat music detracted from the serious nature of the construction of the harbor. I realize it was an old news reel played at the theaters, but it was odd and distracting. Super crowded (like the rest of France!)
