“Lovely place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We were supposed to be travelling around Normandy/Brittany and ended up staying in Arromanche for most of our holiday. The site was basic and very quiet (just what we wanted). The showers and loos were kept very clean, never once did I find them grotty,(a mop/brush type of thing was outside the door in the showers to clean the floor after yourself and leave it clean for the next person), and always a supply of paper! The actual camping pitch was a good size plenty of room for our 4 man tent and car. We found the staff very accommodating and friendly. (It always helps if we try and be friendly too - we were on 'bonjour' terms with the owners/managers and the cleaners! There was a freezer in reception for ice blocks and I charged my phone there once (for no charge).
The only complaint I have is there isnt an actual dog walking area. Dogs are aloud on the site and are expected to be on leads at all times. Owners walked their dogs an vacated pitches which I didnt like even though they picked up after their dog.I thought this was a bit yuk - didnt like the thought that a dog had done its business where my tent was pitched.
We would certainly recommend the site and would stay there again

“Perfect for a few days in arromanches and around”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Spent a couple of nights here whilst visiting the invasion beaches and associated sights. Arromanches is in a good central position for this, and the campsite is only a few hundred metres from the town and seafront. The site has a decent amount of pitches, but is quite compact, great for being near the services block, but a noisy camper anywhere on the site you will hear. Its next to some tennis courts, so there can be noise from that as well. The site is nicely maintained, but the limited amount of toilets and showers means they got grotty easily, but not in a deeply dirty way. The staff weren't so helpful, verging on rude, talking to friends when they serve you. a 50euro cash deposit is needed for a card for the barrier. There was chaos when I arrived at the same time as several motorhomes, with the minimal space for parking to check in, not that much can be done to improve this, except maybe painting parking spaces on the road.
If the location and quality of site wasn't as good, it would have been only 2 stars, if staff improved their attitude then it would go up to 4

“Excellent location, nice site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012 via mobile

We came here to visit the invasion beaches and the site is excellently situated in the town only a few mins walk from a little shop, town centre, beach and museum. The site was clean and well maintained. The baker comes round in the morning in the Summer but otherwise it would be nice if there was a little shop or something once the one in town closes - the nearest supermarket appeared to be in Bayeux, 5 Km away! We also couldn't find ice anywhere and as we were in a tent we had no way to keep our beers and food cool in the cool box, so it would have been good if they provided something like this.
Arromanches is amazing. A lovely town with the remains of Mulberry harbour, clean beach, museum, a small selection of shops, restaurants and bars as well. It was a good base for exploring the other invasion beaches. We also visited Bayeux and Le Mont St Michel from here.
The staff were nice and we got our deposit back for the gate key with no problem even though we had to leave early due to car trouble. Toilets and showers were tidy and cleaned regularly. I didn't notice that our pitch was on a slope and it was huge, definitely enough for our 4 man tent and car. The pitches are separated by low hedges which is nice for privacy. Would definitely recommend this place.

“Campsite OK, Promised refund that never materialised”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2011

We stayed here, like most people, to visit the D day beaches. The campsite was well located. It has basic facilities that were clean. The staff on the campsite were generally helpful. Unfortunatley we had to leave earlier than expected because our son was unwell. On departure I was informed that we would receive our 45 Euro refund for leaving early in due course. I have chased this up for 1 year and have not received the refund. This was very disappointing particularly as I was informed on leaving that I would definitely get a refund and that this information had apparently come from the Mayor of the town himself.

“Perfect Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2010

We contacted the campsite several weeks before to ask it we should reserve a pitch for the end of July. The reply was polite and confirmed that they would keep a space for us if we confirmed by reply of email. Armed with my printout for confirmation we arrived at Sunday lunchtime to be greeted by the lovely staff in the reception. Not a problem with locating our pitch as all of them are numbered and there is a large scale map to help you find your way.

We were traveling in a camper van and had requested room for an awning. Our pitch was huge and we could have easily put another outfit on the other half of our pitch. We were quite near to the loos and several people took a shortcut through our area. Not that it was a problem as they were still 5 or 6 yards away from our awning. Most of the people passing through were delightful and spoke everytime they passed. The French people opposite us were lovely and would stop to see what we had been doing during the day. They seemed genuinely pleased that we had been enjoying their country.

The pitch itself was a little sloping and in parts stoney so I would not have liked to pitch a tent on it. We did seem to be in the camper/caravan area so maybe it was not quite as important to have a clean, grassed pitched.

Campsite could be a bit noisy during the day but was very quiet during the night.

The loos and showers were kept clean but did run out of paper by the end of the day so don't forget to take some in your pocket just in case! Did have an issue one night when there was no hot water in the ladies showers!

The cost of the 5 nights was 89 euros - works out at 9 euros per person per night so not a bad deal considering the location

I have mobility issues and walking is a problem for me. 5 minutes would see me on the first bench on the front and several available rest points all the way down to the harbour and the centre of the village where there are plenty of restaurants and snack bars with more than enough ice cream places (beautiful it was too). Try an American for lunch - you will get more than enough for the largest of appetite. We had one between us - needed to keep room for the ice cream.

The bus stop is just outside and down a bit from the main entrance and buses can be caught to Bayeux or Hornfleur depending on which way you want to go. Making the effort to go and see the tapestry is well worth the time. Bayeux is lovely but lots of cobbled streets!

Arromanches is a bustling town with many visitors during the day. Lots to see and watch while trotting round. There is a Wally Train to take you up to the top of the hill and the 360 cinema running every half hour or so. Well worth doing as the views from the top are spectacular.

We didnt eat out in the evenings but returned to our camper armed with french bread, cheese or ham or both with assorted cakes from the boulangerie that you pass on the way.

There is a small supermarket just a bit further along the road from the campsite entrance with a good selection of 'bits and pieces' to eat. Not much fresh meat but more than enough to make a selection of butties on the wonderful baguettes.

Try the local farm cider - 3.50 euros per bottle - as a non drinker I did find myself having to be quite French and drink it with our evening meal - every night that is!

All in all it was a delightful break in a lovely location.
