The hotel l'Esplanade is located in the picturesque medieval town of Domme, directly overlooking the Dordogne, with magnificent views. From here, it is a 10-min-drive to Sarlat, and probably you stay better here then in Sarlat itself. The hotel is a beautiful building on the top of a rock overlooking the Dordogne valley. It has stylish public rooms and an excellent restaurant (one Michelin star) with reasonable prices. Of course, it specializes in truffles. Our family of six was assigned a socalled "family room" which turned out to be a whole three-storey-house! The house was from medieval times and you felt like staying in a museum. A fantastic experience at a very reasonable rate. Impeccable service and a nice family of owners.

The Bouland family runs a wonderful hotel. The views are incredible, the service excellent, the valley-view rooms superb. The restaurant may have lost a star a couple of years ago,but in our view it still deserves one. We have stayed twice once with and once without demi-pension. It is also a great spot from which to tour the Dordogne.
Of course, the bastide town is worth a visit on its own.
