4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Gruner Baum in Bad Gastein in early July 2012. The
hotel's architecture was a picture post card Tyrolean structure. Just what you would
imagine-beautiful window boxes filled with flowers-large windows/door that opened to
a balcony-babbling stream running through the property. Our room was quite large,
clean and comfortable. We stayed in the "spa" building.
The best thing that the Gruner Baum offers are the views. I spent 2 days remarking to
my husband how beautiful the views of the mountains/Alps are. I couldn't get over the natural beauty of the place. There are lots of hiking options that range from easy to difficult-
We opted for a meal plan that included breakfast and dinner. I am glad we did since
the drive down to Bad Gastein took a little while and we were usually tired by the end
of a busy day. We were able to eat outside and enjoy the nice weather although it was
starting to warm up by the end of our stay.
The views alone are worth the stay (of course we had great weather!)
I would recommend highly recommend this hotel.

Dear Kare-Kare3!

Thank you for sharing your experience in our hotel. Next to the national park and in the Kösslerhaus, our spa-building do we have the greatest view.
So when ever you feel the urge of some fresh air - hiking - fishing with our ranger, you know where to find us.
All the best
Maximilian Blumschein.

My wife and I spent a wonderful 3 days at "Hoteldorf Gruener Baum", first snow of the season on the surrounding mountains, but also on the ground and the still leaf-bearing trees, it was beautiful. The staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful, the Wellness Oasis a real treat in this weather. We went for long walks in the exceptionally pretty "Gasteinertal" (Gastein valley), with a coffee break here and there, not being able to resist the typical Austrian cakes...
The food at Gruener Baum is as excellent as the service and the quaint and tasteful interior. We can recommend this place for a restive family holiday, but also as a starting point for great skiing - or any other outdoor sport - holdays!!
We are rating all the below questions with "Excellent", simply because this is how we truly feel about it.
Margret and Peter Pischler, Kirchdorf in Tirol, Austria

Room Tip: We had the somewhat bigger Junior suite, which is extremely comfortable and spacious!

Located in a beautifull area, at the entry to Hohe Tauern National Park
this is a family owned property in the Old World traditional style.
Our spacious room included two full size beds, wardrobe, two comfortable lounging chairs and writing desk. Also flat screen TV with an international channels, and a free WiFi. During our stay at Gruner Baum, we chose the Half board, a full buffet breakfast and five course dinner which was excellent. We enjoyed the long walks in the valley's beautifull surrounding trails, and a long soak in the thermal bath after.
A must see in the town of Bad Gastein is a spectacullar waterfall cascading from the mountain stream.

Dear 1trekky!

Thank you for taking your time and writing this article! We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are now in the 99th year that the Grüner Baum is within our family, so I like your "old world style" ;-)
The city centre is not in the best shape but I am really happy that you point out the positive things and that waterfall IS spectacular.
Thanks again & all the best!

We were part of a Nigerian contingency that visited this Summer. This was one of the best family holidays we have ever had. There was something for every member of the family to enjoy, golf nearby for the parents, thermal spas, we enjoyed breakfast at the Fuchs farm, night trip with flame torches to the woods with the children, cycling in the nearby national forest......I could go on.
Most of all the attention to detail the staff paid to our queries was first class. We will be back!

Hoteldorf Gruner Baum is a family run hoteldorf (a collection of cottages) with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and every room has a spacious balcony where you can sip your tea and enjoy the beauty of nature to feel soothed, relaxed and away from the madding crowd’s ignoble strife.
The surrounding area is a national park (Hohe Tauern) is stunningly beautiful and offers great opportunities for trekking or even relaxed nature walks. There are some farms nearby with horses, pigs and sheep as well as an outlet that that sells fresh dairy produce.
The spa is well appointed and offers a range of therapies for relaxation as well as rejuvenation. The therapists are well versed with the latest techniques and explain the procedure as well as the benefits as they work. The spa area includes is an indoor pool (outdoor pool outside) as well as Jacuzzi, steam, sauna, exercise equipment, baths, etc.
The hotel is a fifteen minute drive from the station and on advance information Gruner Baum gives complimentary pick up and drop to the station.
The only jarring notes were that the hotel was extremely short staffed even in peak season.
We asked for drinking water and were given tap water for which the hotel charged us more than 8 Euros for the tap water because they sent a staff to deliver the water to our room.

Room Tip: Some of the average rooms have better views than superior rooms. If possible, see the choices availa...

Dear Voygr!

As a hotelier it is very refreshing to read where all these reviews come from. Austria and Germany is kind of standard, but Russia, Qatar, Nigeria and now India :-) WOW
Thank you very much for your review.
Mid August is high season and you are right, everyone is working hard for our clients. We had more business than we expected and so our team was willing to make some overtime. That it had the appearance of been understaffed, was not meant to be and we are sorry for that. We hope to make a better forecast to have a better staffing for the next high-season.
Regarding the water, there is the information in our room, that the tab water is not only drinkable, it has premium-mineral-water quality. The fact that room service didn't inform you about that again, I am sorry and we took care about that matter immediately. For your next stay, please advise reservations, a bottle wine is waiting for you.
All the best
Maximilian Blumschein.

Close to Bad Gastein- you can walk there on a wonderful "promenade" within fifteen minutes- this hotel is wonderfully located in a beautiful valley. Although they have expanded to eighty rooms it still feels cosy and familiar. As we have been upgraded to a suite, we had spacious room and a really astonishing view . The restaurant serves fine food and they offer a range of activities starting directly from the hotel. What we especially liked was that the whole appearance and everything they offered was very authentic and brought us nearer to nature and the specialities of this region.
