“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the Das Beck in June. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful and had a lot of information on things to do in the area. The rooms were updated and, of course, very clean. Breakfast was excellent, particularly when enjoyed in their outside terrace. Although we don't drink, they had a good selection of wine and have a popular lounge.

The location is right in the old town and the restaurants they recommended were very good.

Reutte is centrally located to visit the major sites in the western Alps - Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Oberammergau, and Mittenwald. We did it by car, which we recommend as the scenary getting to the places was a good as the places themselves.

We were glad we bought a Germany/Austria chip for our Garmin GPS as the streets in the older parts of towns are complex and having a voice tell you to 'turn in 50 meters' was much easier than trying to find street signs (whcih are minimal and hard to see) to tell where you are from a map. Still missed a number of hidden turns but the 'recalculate' function allowed us to recover (sometimes more than once) to get to where we wanted to go.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back. There's no A/C but the temperature cools off nicely in the evening.

We stayed at Hotel Das Beck for two nights in June 2012. We used it as a base to explore Mad Ludwig's Castles and the Tirol. Perfect location, nice bar/cafe (small plates, no full meals), excellent room with a small balcony from which we could look out on the Bavarian Alps. Our double was clean and roomy. Free parking for our rental car. Great hosts and a filling breakfast.

Room Tip: No elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage up.

We also chose this hotel based on Rick Steves' recommendation and enjoyed it and the whole area immensely. Rooms were clean and fresh but a bit small. The little balcony of the back surprised us with sheep grazing just beyond the parking lot and the view of the mountains from there was spectacular. Breakfast was hearty and we enjoyed boiling our own eggs for a change. The staff were very friendly, recommending hiking spots and restaurants. Definitely a good jumping off point for hiking, the Ehrenberg castle ruins, and Neuschwanstein.

We chose to stay in Reutte due to Rick Steves's travel guide, and we found Das Beck there. A good choice. The hotel is in the heart of town close to the train station. The room (simple but comfy) had a small balcony. Breakfast was honest. All summed, it’s a good value.

We stayed here in May 2011 during a trip to Germany & Austria. We used it as our base to visit several nearby sites: the Zugspitze, Neuschwanstein, Oberammergau, Ehrenfeld castle, etc. We were able to make a nice loop out from the hotel, see the sites and return in the evening. We enjoyed the food there, breakfasts and one dinner (the goulash soup was delicious). The owners are very friendly and helped us with directions and a recommendation for dinner the 2nd night which we really enjoyed. The room was nice, and we had a little balcony with a view of a park in the back. There was free parking. It's located right in the little town of Reutte so it's convenient for that. We enjoyed staying here and would do so again if we're ever lucky enough to return!

This was a great location in Reutte, near the king's castles and good hiking, and the owners/staff were very nice and very helpful. They own a cute wine bar with good wine selections including local vintages.
Would definitely stay again.

The reason we chose this hotel was to stay closer to visit the castles. But when we were there we found out there were so many more good hotels much more closer(5 min) in Germany. This hotel is a good 20 min drive one-way to the castles. So, the location not so great.
The hotel is family owned and an old couple. The rooms were of good size but the beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in my life.Twin beds joined as a king, which would always move away. The mattress was very uncomfortable. The bathroom was spacious but stingy on towels on tissue and soap. So, the rooms were bad.

We always like a good breakfast but again the couple being cheap, were the only 2 waiting, cooking, serving, cleaning. The bread was bought the day before from grocery stores. a couple of cakes were baked. Some eggs which we could boil ourselves. The only thing I liked about the breakfast was fruits and yogurt.

The parking area is just behind the hotel and has only 5-7 parking spots. Overall I would choose hotels in Germany(which are nicer, closer and not cheap) rather than Austria to avoid the half hour drive.

We are very sorry, that this guests didn't feel comfortable in our hotel.

But we have to correct the following facts:

In our bathrooms we provide two towels for each guest, reserve tissue and soapdispensers which are filled up constantly. We'll give you more of that and as much as you need on request.

We offer freshly baked bread seven days a week,
which is delivered every morning from a local bakery.

Our breakfast buffet offers the following:
At least 3 sorts of bread rolls, fresh brown bread, 2 sorts of toasts, cake, butter, 4 sorts of jams, 4 sorts of cheeses, 4 sorts of cold meats and ham.
Our fresh organic eggs are from the farm in the neighbourhood.
Furthermore we have sliced cucumbers, tomatoes,
fruitsalad made from fresh fruits of the season, yoghurt and 4 sorts of cereals.
As well as fresh milk, 3 sorts of real fruit juices and coffee or tea as much as you like.

Normally in the morning 4 staff members are on duty, 2 for breakfast service and 2 for cleaning.

Our private parking area has 14 lots.

It is true our hotel is a 20 min. drive from the bavarian kingscastles,
but therefor we are settled in a really quiet, nice little town, away from the crowds and surrounded by wonderful nature.

We love our work, that keeps us young.
