“Exceptional hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

The Hotel Granada is located at the end of Calle La Calzada in Granada. This street is the main entertainment/dining street in Granada. You are within easy walking distance of many restaurants, beauty spas/salons, tour companies, historic churches, and the town square.
This was our first trip to Nicaragua, and we were pretty apprehensive. As the other reviewers have commented, about half of the hotel staff speak English (all of the desk clerks spoke English very well), and the servers and staff who don't speak English are very accommodating. The restaurant in the hotel is very good - the buffet breakfast is fresh and satisfying - but the dinners are stellar. The portions are generous - one entree I think called El Corozo or El Corazon is a pile of delicious grilled meat to feed a family. At the hotel and elsewhere, be prepared for vendors to approach you at your table if you are near the street with pottery, trinkets, cashews, and other food or items for sale. Bottles of water at the hotel bar are cheap by American standards.
Our room was clean and the AC and shower in our room were great. Unfortunately, the in-room safes were out of service (in the process of being replaced, I think), so we stored some valuables in the safe at the front desk without problem. We were not comfortable on the very firm mattresses, but a pretty minor complaint in the greater scheme of things.
The pool is beautiful and clean, though there is no poolside service. There appeared to be a bar near the pool, but it was not staffed or stocked.
We would not hesitate to return to Granada or the Hotel Granada.

The hotel was at the end of the street, making it a quiet place to stay. At first we were given a small room with only one bed when checking in (had booked 2 beds), but when we went back to the desk we were given a room similar to the photo online. It was awesome! The pool area was quiet and clean. And the breakfast was good. Would definitely stay there again in the future!

We were here with a tour group, so I do not know if this is a good value. The staff are all friendly, accommodation, and about 1/2 speak English. The AC and plumbing is variable in each room. The buffet breakfast is basic, monotonous, but adequate. The firm bed was perfect for me. Great Wi-Fi in the public areas. If you want everything to be perfect, this may not be the place, or any place in Nicaragua for that matter. The restaurant food was tasty, well prepared, and flavorful.

We liked it so much here we extended our stay for a couple of nights. The rooms had AC, the decor was traditional and the hotel was a nice distance away from the main drag. It had a great swimming pool and a good buffet breakfast. All in all, great value vs it's North American counterparts.

I was disappointed in the customer service at this this hotel.
The hard-wired hairdryer did not work and there was no spare offered until I insisted they get one. The safe did not work, and the rooms were not of consistent quality. It has such great potential however and good colonial atmosphere..
The building itself is very interesting and it is immense with a wonderful large pool!
Passageways are very dark at night..low watt bulbs due to electricity costs...which is typical in Granada.
Stairwell up to my room was covered in pigeon droppings..open to a big tower ..and not washed in the 3 days I was there. If Granada gets more tourists this could e a great place but they need more staff to look after such a big space. Hamburger in the bar was outstanding!!

Room Tip: I liked the room in the front better than the ones in the extension. Better maintained as used more...

Very nice hotel in downtown Granada. Friendly staff, beautiful suite on the second floor, nice surroundings, and beautiful pool. The pool was a bit too warm, but this is to be expected as it was very hot at the end of January/2013.....We stayed one night during a tour from our hotel at Montelimar Beach.
This hotel is downtown and is within walking distance of restaurants and shops. We ate at the hotel as we were tired from the days tour and the food and service was excellent!!

Room Tip: The suites are on the second floor. They are a bit more spacious than the first floor rooms...

I stayed on a Saturday and Sunday, so I don't know if it's an issue during the week, but the bells from the church across the street ring early and often, so be prepared. Front desk service was very good, service in the bar was excellent. Sunday breakfast buffet was fine, but slow refilling the food when it was running out. Room was ok. Bathroom was redone, but very tiny. Pool area was beautiful, but the service at the pool was completely slow and inattentive. If you need a taxi, ask the front desk if they can contact Jose Luis--he is safe driver and very knowledgeable (caveat..I speak Spanish, so I don't know how good his English is)
