“Nice hotel, Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

I have stayed at the Dario twice during my trips to Granada - for business and pleasure. The hotel rooms are very nice, with a spanish colonial feel to them - much like Granada. The location is perfect for being in the middle of all the action. You can step out the front door and be surrounded by tons of restaurants and places to shop. My parents also stayed here during a recent visit and really enjoyed their stay.

If you are in Granada on a Friday night and get tired of the Florence style tourist atmosphere, come to Dario for some local song and dance and good food. I have been coming to the restaurant for the last several years and it never disppoints with good food and friendly staff. On this trip, a new jewel was found. Friday night is "Noche Tipica", which means local folklore and some great dancing/show from the locals. Come and enjoy the atmosphere and the food is actually affordable and the service is always great. Bernardo Lacayo

My partner and I had the great pleasure of staying at the Dario for several nights during our february visit to Nicaragua. The staff was wonderful and helpful, rooms were impeccably clean and cozy, and the location is perfect for getting to know the city. A wonderful getaway spot, with plenty of privacy and a very serene environment. I recommend it highly.

We had previously stayed at this hotel with better (though not spectacular) results, so this visit was gravely disappointing. The good: the check-in process was smooth and friendly, and the porter also was outstanding. Also, the Nicaraguan breakfast is substantial and mostly delicious. The location is terrific right in the middle of everything.

The bad: Our reservation included a free bottle of wine, which we never received. More significantly, the stay was extremely uncomfortable for a few reasons. First, when we arrived in our room at approx. 10 p.m., it was 88 degrees. Obviously, though they knew we were coming and staying in their suite, they had not turned on a fan or A/C for quite some time. Unfortunately, even if they had, the poor quality of the unit would not have cooled it much. We left the unit on full blast for our 36 hours in the hotel, and the temperature not once reached below 78 degrees, with an average of over 80 degrees.

Second, we did not have any hot water in our shower at any time. This might have seemed refreshing given the sauna that the room was, but in fact hot water was desired as we were filthy from being in such heat.

Third, the beds are rather uncomfortable.

In addition to the lack of comfort provided by the hotel, the staff (other than at check-in) were alarmingly unhelpful. At breakfast the first day, I wanted to leave a tip for the waiter but had only 200 cordoba bills. I was directed by the restaurant to the front desk, where I asked if they had change, and they said they had no money at all. So wait, a restaurant and a hotel have no cash? I explained that I just wanted it so that I could give THEM money, and the worker shrugged her shoulders and didn't care. Oddly enough, when I checked out, to pay my 60 cordoba bill they were able to make change.

The service at breakfast was also very uninterested to the point where I had to ask if we could be waited on. Poor service only added to the discomfort of the stay, and we won't be staying again.

My husband and I stayed here one night. The best location in Granada, close to the Park and the Churches and the Lake Nicaragua is a bike ride away (don't try to walk to the Lake from here, it looks close on the map but it isn't). The bike rental was only $1 per hour. A/C worked perfectly, the courtyard was beautiful; frankly it is extremely cute and truly embodies ancient Granada with the comforts of a modern hotel.

I had lunch at Hotel Dario. The meal was very good. I had the steak, which was great. Also there is free wifi in the hotel lobby/restaurant, just ask for the password.

Also, for what it's worth, the bathroom facilities were also very good, clean, and included TP!

The Hotel Dario is right on the Calzada, the pedestrian street in Granada that has a fantastic variety of streetside cafe's to choose from. Room was clean and spacious, food was good, service was outstanding. The only two drawbacks were the tiny pool and the very uncomfortable chairs in the meeting room! Certainly a great option in Granada

Room Tip: Don`t fall into the temptation of having a room with a balcony over the street. These might seem as...
