“great hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2010

We stayed here for a 4 day vacation in Nicaragua while living in Costa Rica for a couple of months on business. The hotel sits in a prime location on the square. It’s a beautifully restored hacienda and I have to say after staying in many hotels in Costa Rica we were a bit blown away at how lovely it really was. The furnishings and fixtures are all of high quality and with paying less than $100 USD a night with breakfast included it was by far nicer than we expected and a pleasant surprise.

The breakfast is adequate with a couple of warm dishes and some fruit and coffee.

The staff was very helpful and polite. The pool is small, but a nice place to cool off after a long dusty day exploring. There are a few nice restaurants in walking distance of the hotel that the staff can recommend as well as tour companies.

I recently stayed as a lone traveller in the Plaza Colon hotel in Granada, having booked ahead for 2 nights, for a Friday and Saturday night. The room was sizeable, cool and well-turned out, with elegant dark wood furniture and a small balcony overlooking the pool. The bathroom was clean, stocked with basic essentials, including plenty of towels (not always the case in my experience!) and a good supply of hot water.

There was a pretty fast wireless internet connection in the room too, I just had to get the code from reception and was able to use my laptop with no problems.

The staff I came into contact with were attentive, courteous and helpful.

One criticism was the seeming lack of food available for my first breakfast buffet - I could only find 2 tiny bread rolls left at about 9:30am, although there may have been an unusually large number of early-bird guests before me, I doubt it. I went to a cafe next door on my second morning to be sure of a full Nica breakfast before my journey back to Jinotega!

I found the hotel to be an extremely comfortable base for my weekend trip to Granada and would recommend the hotel to travellers looking for a break from basic facilities, individuals or couples.

Great a/c. Beautiful rooms. Great staff. Heart of the city. Good breakfast. Hard beds. They forgot to buy the boxspring so woke each morning with an aching back.

My wife and I stayed here for a week. We had an amazing time. The hotel itself is the nicest in the city of Grenada hands down, amazinglying mainatined- only about 20 some rooms and there are 5 people cleaning the hotel at all times so it is always clean and in tip top shape. The rooms themselves are like an oasis when you come back from exploring the city or a long day of hiking, they have quite air conditioners and comfromtable beds. Then every morning you wake up to breakfast by the pool which is severed with a smile a every day a different fresh fruit juice. The best [part of the hotel though is the staff who are amazingly friendly and helpful. They arranged priavte tours for us almost everyday to do extacly what we wanted to do and made helpful suggestions of what to do. We always had great tour guides from them and they really made an effort to make our stay special. I can not wait to get a chance to go back

The hotel is pretty and superbly maintained. My room was comfortable in size, beautiful furniture, and everything was in working conditions. Not a big hotel ambiance but a guest house. Nice small pool to cool off after walking around town. No noise observed during my night stay. Upper rooms are probably better in terms of noise control. Hotel staff very helpful but they lack of knowledge to set up tours. You are better off walking across the park next to the cathedral to set your own tours with agencies. Overall, great location, friendly staff, superb rooms and great experience.

Beautifully restored colonial hotel in the heart of Granada. Great location across from central plaza - yet a peaceful oasis in the midst of the bustling town center. Very clean, spacious and well equipped rooms with nice outdoor common areas. The staff was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. Highly recommend!

Subject: Hotel Plaza Colon
Location: Granada, Nicaragua, Central America
Title: Beautiful & Charming Hotel
ID#: 68456471

Hotel Plaza Colon is a beautiful hotel. The employees are lovely and helpful. They have deluxe rooms overlooking the plaza with huge balconies to sit out on and watch the flow of life in the plaza. The rate for the deluxe room is $106.00/night including taxes and breakfast.
Breakfast is fine but not fancy....eggs with pinto gallo (traditional rice w/ red beans) toast, fresh fruit and fresh juice. The deluxe rooms are huge and have beautiful wood. There is also a sparkling clean swimming pool. It is a wonderful place to stay.
