“First class in every respect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2011

The location is fabulous, right on the main plaza, even if it was fiesta time during our stay and the music and fireworks went on until the early hours. The rooms are huge and well appointed, the staff very friendly and the breakfasts varied and delicious.
The pool is beautifully clean, like the rest of the hotel, but best of all is to sit on the balcony of your room and watch the activity in the square below - thus try to ensure you have a room facing onto the plaza. Best of all, the room rates are around $100 pre-tax, an absolute bargain.
As for eating, try the newly opened Encuentros cafe and restaurant on the other side of the square. The food is excellent and the portions huge - the new proprietor, a Dutch documentary film-maker intends showing movies and there's also a pool.

Room Tip: If you want the views, and the noise from the street (but here it's people, music, life rather t...

The Hotel Plaza Colon is well located on the central plaza in the heart of Granada. We spent 4 nights in this beautiful and exceptionally clean hotel. The staff is polite, well informed, was able to assist with all the questions we had which enabled us get the most out of our excursions. Numerous restaurants and attractions are within easy walking of the hotel. Excellent (and free) use of computers in the business center. If you're traveling from the Managua airport, the hotel will arrange a taxi to get you to Granada. Just let them know by email.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the plaza side of the hotel may be quieter but even those on the plaza should suit m...

I spent six nights at Hotel Plaza Colon in November of 2011. It is a very nice hotel. All of the facilities are excellent and very clean. The staff is also friendly and helpful. It is in a great location, across from the central park, within walking distance of everything.

Hotel Plaza Colon is an amazing hotel right prime location right on the main plaza in Granada. With colonial architecture, fantastic service, and a beautiful open setting for swimming, eating and lounging, this is the place to stay while in Granada. Spend the extra money for a balcony room facing the plaza and you will not be disappointed. The staff is super friendly and will go out their way to help and organize any day trips you might want to do. Great place to relax and soak in Nicaraguan culture.

I decided to treat myself and splurge on something nice and comfortable with atmosphere and location. The Hotel Plaza Colon had them all, espeically if you upgrade to a balacony room overlooking the square and Cathedral. The glow on the setting sun onto the yellow Cathedral with a couple of Tonas (great Nica beer) was just what I was looking for. Also, the service and staff were all extremely personable and helpful.

Room Tip: If plan to spend much time in the room, spring for a balcony room.

We stayed 2 nights in a king balcony room. The rooms are large, with bed, small desk, closet, dresser. There was space for a chaise or sofa, which would've been a nice touch (but not there). The bathroom is small but clean; we were advised not to drink the tap water and the hotel provides bottled water for you. The balcony looks over the park, which is usually full of people--but the doors completely shut out all noise and light, so no worries on that front. We arranged airport transfer through the hotel, and had no problems with this: $35 cash, driver waiting outside the doors of the airport. You can walk from the hotel to most city sights, or the horse-drawn carriages line up right outside. Breakfast was quite good. I would highly recommend sucking it up and taking the 45 minute ride from Managua airport to Granada to start your trip from here.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms overlook the park; there are only a few so book early
