“Great day trip to the Laguna”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014 via mobile

We visited San Simian and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We appreciated the friendliness of the staff, and the food beverages were good and at a reasonable price. I found San Simian to be clean and functional and we had fun swimming in Laguna de Apoyo. We were very pleased that our walk just outside of the premises allowed us to see several howler monkeys in their natural state - we counted at least 10. All in all it was a very pleasant day and well worth the $5 admission day visitor charge for use of the kayaks, hammocks and inner tubes. If you are looking for a relaxing day away from the crowds, I would recommend San Simian.

“Dont' go with great expectations!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

Went there on a recommendation for a day trip thinking this place was very nice, couldn't be farther from the truth. It is a long drive to get there first of all, and it is not worth the trip. The seating area is very unlevel, there was not enough tables to seat everyone, it is on dirt and not very clean. The food is OK, the place is below average, we went several places while in Nicaragua and this was one of the not so memorable ones, we were told that they had invested $ 500,000 dollars into it, but we wondered were it got invested. it has potential but needs alot of TLC. There were several places we passed coming in that looked really nice, guess we should have went to one of them.

Hello Joe

Thanks for taking time to write a review. We are so sorry that you could not enjoy our place.

You are complaing that we are so far from Granda. We are 1/2 drive from Granada and do not say that we are very close. As you are from Texas i believe a 1/2 is in amercan standard pretty close

You are complaing that our ground is not flat. We do not say that our ground is plain. As we are inside of Crater you have to expect that the place is unlevel. As the slopes in a vulcano are always steep.

You are complaing that you have heard that we have invested over USD 500000 i just can say that is absolutly not true . I dont know who gave you all this information but i believe its someone which has never been here.

YOu are complaing that there where not enough tables. On weekend in can get busy and there are probably not many tables left on the beach side. Our main Restaurant is next to the entrance of the Lodge and there are always plenty of tables are available and if both sides are filling up we close the gate that all people which are at our Hotel can seat.

We suggest you should check out a place up front and call us so we could tell you all this things which are not true. You should give this person who gave you all the wrong information a bad review as he was wrong and not we.

“More than a restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

We have been to the San Simian Eco lodge many times and have never been disappointed. This was the first time we have gone there just for lunch and a swim.

Laguna de Apoyo is always a beautiful place to swim, have lunch, and just hang out. So this was exactly what we intended to do with our visitor to Nicaragua. We were lucky that the weather was good. It was a bit windy and the lagoon had quite a few waves resembling a lake.

It took us around 40 minutes to drive from Managua through the traffic this time and we arrived there early to find a nice & shady spot for our lunch. Some of us got into the lagoon and made use of various water-gear available to the clients. Since we came for lunch we did not pay a fee for using the facilities.

For lunch we ordered fish, fish tacos, and vegetables on skewer. We were all very happy with our food. The bartenders/waiters there were friendly & professional, and if you wanted a cocktail to your specifications they would do a fine job even if they were making it for the very first time. I was a bit under the weather and the very friendly waiter/bartender, Bayardo, was listening and jotting down the ingredients. He reappeared shortly with a wicked Grog!

We usually prefer to stay at the lodge to driving back on the same day, but for anyone who wants to spend the day swimming & "hammocking" at a relaxing and quiet place close to Managua, I highly recommend the Laguna beach of the San Simian Eco lodge, and the restaurant.

“Great for relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

This is a really nice place with a beautiful view of the lagoon, really good for swimming and relaxing, I recommend it a hundred percent. A really big plus is the entrance fee is just 2.5 dollars p/p for Nicas and 5 dollars for foreigners, and you can use the kayacs, donuts and more.

“Not as good as suggested by the reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

We decided to have our lunch at San Simian and stay for the afternoon based on the reviews on this site. However the policy that you have to pay 5 USD entry fee on top of the food which is around USD 10 per plate makes the place more expensive than Norome for the same quality. We recommend San Simian to implement a policy of minimum consumption or subtract the entry free from the food bill. We paid about USD 85 in food for 6 persons and on top of that we paid 30 USD entry fee. Furrthermore the quality of the food was nothing to write home about as the level of soya sauce was quite high in the various menus. Furthermore we had to request the menus, request the attention of the waiter again and again if we wanted to order something. No attention at all. The place is nice for day visitors that would like to bring their own food. In that way you can have a pleasant day that doesn't cost too much. If you plan to have a nice lunch with a group of friend at the lakeside you'd better look for another place.
