“Nice area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

A nice area for food and drinks. Lots of restaurants with outside seating. We ate at this area about every day and felt very safe. You will be hounded by lots of locals selling their handicrafts (bracelets, pottery, sunglasses, etc.). If you walk to the very end of the street you will eventually see an old cathedral and then to the shores of Lake Nicaragua.

“It's the tourist walkway -- restaurants, etc.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

The Calle La Calzada is a tourist walkway, filled with restaurants, bars, travel agencies and other services for tourists and Nicaraguans who can afford them. It starts on the north side of the cathedral, at central park, and extends 4 blocks toward the lake (east.) Contruction is underway to extend it all the way to the lake. O'Shea's Irish Pub may be the most popular restaurant on the Calzada. I like Monna Lisa Pizza, Don Luca, and several others are good too. It's great for people watching, best on Friday and Saturday nights. Check it out --- some people find it pretty touristy, but many or most of the customers are Nicaraguan.

“Lots of choices for food and drinks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

We stayed at Hotel Plaza Colon and enjoyed the quick walk to Calle La Calzada. It was safe to walk at night and we felt very comfortable. Almost every restaurant has outdoor seating and it was nice to enjoy food and a drink while doing some people walking.

“A fun place to eat and kick back.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We enjoyed trying the different bars and restaurants. There were street performers every night. It was nice having so many choices in one place. We felt safe with the police around. Most were undercover so you didn't really notice them but it was nice knowing they were there.

“A Nicaragua Must”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

I trip to Nicaragua without visiting La Calzada once, is like going to New York City and not visiting Time Square. Yeah, it is noise, touristy, and more expensive then elsewhere, but it is all those things because there is an inherent awesomeness to it that you will love. You will be glad you visited it. Visit it at night. It does impress!
