“Its for a good cause”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

For the price you pay for the coffee it a good deal. Nothing special. The service is good and the staff are friendly.
Its for a good cause and they work hard... so stop in and have a coffee or buy a hammock.

“Great service, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

We found out about Café de las Sonrisas in a magazine about Granada in our hostel, so we decided to have breakfast here and really loved it. The name is really not just a name but a philosophy - the service was excellent, very friendly and fast. I had a delicious banana pancake that couldn't have been any better. We especially enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and the great initiative that's behind the place - all the people working there are deaf-mute, and they do not only run the café but have also created several other projects: for example, they weave beautiful hammocks from old plastic bags that kids from poor neighbourhoods collect in the streets and bring there in exchange for school materials or toys. So if you eat here, you don't just enjoy a delicious meal but also support a good cause! Also, don't miss the opportunity to learn a few words in sign language.

“Amazing place, amazing mission”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

This is an experience unlike any other-- all the servers are deaf/mutes, thus requiring you to communicate with your hands and pictures. This is the only place in all of Nicaragua and Central America I believe, where handicapped people are gainfully employed. A must visit while in Granada, and check out their hammock shop, super high quality, and also employing those that would otherwise have no opportunity. Amazing!

“Unique and incredibly worthwhile experience!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

My friends and I were told to visit Cafe de Las Sonrisas and check out the great food, but more importantly, the amazing work this social enterprise was doing to support vulnerable members of the community. Nicaragua lacks social services to help people with disabilities and social stigma for the visually and hearing impaired community makes finding viable employment opportunities extremely difficult. The owner, Tio Antonio has helped turn this around through the restaurant that employs deaf staff, along with a hammock workshop on site that employs visually impaired youth and adults. The food was fantastic but the atmosphere was even more amazing! Would highly recommend checking this place out and supporting a really worthwhile cause!!

“Cheap cool place to have a simple "almuerzo"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We came there for a quick almuerzo on a very hot day. The food is ok and quite cheap. The restaurant is run by a full team of mude&death people. the staff is really nice and happy to share some words in their own language. The café also has a hammock fabric, another great social project. You can order a special hammock and you will be able to collect it 48hrs later!
