“quiet and lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

Granada is a bustling city which can be fun. However. For a good nights sleep being a bit away from the Centre of things can be good. There are many good reasons to stay at Casa Barcelona. It is a short walk to the town square, with taxis available if you want to ride back. It is absolutely clean and well cared for. But primary for us was the charm and integrity of the owner/host. There is a quiet dignity about her and the Casa. The hotel sponsors children who could otherwise not afford school fees and takes pride in paying a living wage to its small staff. Please consider this hotel, you will be giving yourself a treat and helping others. The kindness shown to us was extraordinary.

This place is worth coming back to. I went twice and twice the staff was really friendly (remembering me even) and rooms were neat and tidy. The inside court is nice and shady, restaurant fine and relaxed and people help you very very good! Its location is close to the bus stop, but a little bit out of town. We did really like the walk into the tourist town via the normal market town though. Can advise this place to anyone.

Me and my boyfriend spent two nights at hotel casa Barcelona and loved it! From the moment we arrived and till the moment we left we felt at home there. The place is a perfect getaway if you want a good nights rest after a day on a tour or in town. The hotel is quiet and has a lovely green ambiance. The rooms are clean and fresh and have great beds! But what made the stay there for me the best is, that exceptional service which is rare these days. Due to circumstances I had to wake up the owner at two oclock at night and she still helped me with a smile! Now that I call hospitality! Look no further to book in Granada it will be your home away from home!

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The staff was Excellent, extremely helpful and very kind, and they spoke English very well. We got in late, they held our room for us and even fixed a meal for us as we did not have a chance to get dinner before arriving. The rooms were very clean, bed was very comfortable and they provided many extra touches to make us feel at home. It was a great value for $35! Highly recommended.

If you would like to stay in a quiet hotel near the center of Granada, I recommand Hotel Casa Barcelona. The rooms are basic, but very clean and the garden is a place where you can hang out while relaxing from a visit to Granada. It's only a 15 min walk to the center. I would recommand a bike ride through the city. If you would like to book a trip to Mombacho, I would highly recommand Leo tours (locally operated tour guides).

A small, very nice hotel with social consciense and visions about a green future. Only eight rooms with a wonderful green garden with birds and even kolibries. Rooms have basic standard. Clean. Always enough water. Secure. Free internet 24 hours. Situated a short walk from the Plaza in Granada centre which means that you pass the big city market and the streets where people live and move. Also near bus terminals to places nearby. Rich and good breakfast. Best of all the wonderful staff. Always friendly and helpful. The nice owner, Xaviera Rivera, speaks English.
Very good value for money. I stayed there for eleven days and I would like to return if ever visiting Granada again.

For Granada this hotel is cheap, but it has none of the bad features of cheap hotels. The staff are friendly and reliable. The 8 or 9 rooms are clean, the bathroom spacious and the rooms have several features not common to lower price hotels: firm mattresses, a safe in the room, lights on both sides of the bed you can actually read by without strain, and cable with 100 channels in the usual assortment of languages. (the TV screens are small) The courtyard is green and pleasant and has a couple of hammocks. The price of $35 a night does not include optional air conditioning at $13 a night, but in Granada you don't need air conditioning at night to sleep. Unlike most hotels in Nicaragua the quoted price includes the 17% tax on rooms. Breakfast costs $5, but is substantial with choices of Nica, typical American, or fruit, granola and yogurt style breakfasts. (You can have dinner there) When I did not make it clear enough the night before that I was leaving a tip, the money was returned to me the next day by the owner. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the Parque Central through the mercado, which is perfectly fine during the daytime. After dark I took cabs which cost me 20 cordobas (.80 US) from the center. The guests were the usual age and international mix in Nicaragua with a fair number of retired expats from Costa Rica making their 90 day visa runs. If you are looking for clean, safe, and cheap (for Granada) hotel which is not a hostal, this place is a great choice.
