“A let down.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

I had reservations here and it was the one hotel on the trip I was really looking forward to. When we arrived there was no one at the desk. There was a girl in the kitchen who ignored us for awhile before asking us what we needed (which should have been obvious given the amount of luggage we had). We were eventually showed to our room which was filled with cob webs. Then when we went to ask some information about activities and there was still no one to ask other than the girl who was letting some guy kiss her stomach right next to the reception desk. I don't know how typical this experience is, but it is one of the more expensive places at the lagoon and I was not willing to pay that price for such terrible service and a dirty room.

Have been to Laguna de Apoyo a couple times but the last time was my first stay at Hotel Selvazul and it's where I'll be staying in the future. They offer a variety of room types which are unique and are all very different from each other, but all are on the water with a great view. Nights stay depends on the room but are great prices for what you get, food and drinks were all cheaper than what I had paid in the area before. Can't wait to go back.

SelvAzul is breathtaking. Located right on Laguna de Apoyo, you can't go wrong. But you can't get much better than staying here. The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are so tastefully beautiful. All the room are unique and gorgeous, many with great views of the lake and small private pools. The prices are extremely affordable for what the quality of the rooms. Its actually pretty spectacular.

The only downfalls are service and food. We were offered a menu in our room for the nearby comedor in town (they deliver to all the hotels). When we ordered from it, a cook at SelvAzul cooked it herself. We were confused, as we really like (and prefer) the food from the comedor. We were also charged 10 Cord more. When we brought this to the attention of the comedor the next day, they weren't too happy and said that they have had this problem with the hotel before. They were planning on taking their menus out of the hotel. If they haven't been removed yet, make sure that you are getting what you order from where you think you are ordering.

Also, the breakfast is free, but it was so bad (and poorly run) that we decided to go elsewhere to eat. They were slow to refill the buffet style food and the coffee (which was terrible). Ah, well. It was free. But they could try a little harder in this respect.

All in all, I would definitely go back just because it is such a beautiful spot for an extremely reasonable price. There are other places to eat in the area that are delicious.

Laguna de Apoyo - great alternative to Granada and steps from the laguna. Eclectic rooms with unique themes. We stayed in the Caribbean room which was airy and spacious as you are rocked to sleep by the sound of the water. Mosquitoes are minimal as the breeze keeps them away.

The plumbing needs a tune up ; at times the water didn't turn on at all. The water is pumped and filtered from the Laguna which is the cleanest water in all of Nicaragua and you're clean enough from swimming alone :)

After spending a week in Laguna de apoyo, I have to say that Hotel Selvazul is the most beautiful hotel of them all. The rooms themselves are decorated to the detail and the grounds make you feel like you are living in paradise. The bilingual staff is very accomodating and friendly which makes for a very pleasant experience. The hotel offers free laundry service, free water refills, and coffee and delicious breakfast are included in the price of the room you book. The prices are more than reasonable for what you get. My boyfriend and I loved it so much that we extended our stay and didnt want to leave. Lastly I must say that the owner, Tim Roberts was the ultimate host with the most. I cannot recommend this place enough. We will for sure be back. If you are hoping to stay a night I suggest you book in advance, weekends and some weekdays are completely booked out.

Room Tip: Sleep quality was super great during the week. On the weekends it can get rowdy. We took the Ankara...

The hotel is in a beautiful spot, but the rooms are rundown and the bathrooms were dirty. We felt more comfortable swimming the laguna than taking a shower. That being said the owner was nice and helpful. I wish we had stayed elsewhere.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

My partner and I were looking for somewhere pretty special to spend our 5th anniversary, and we came across Selvazul on the internet. We instantly saw it was exactly the kind of place we wanted. We were unable to get through to make a reservation but as this is low season we took our chances and turned up. We were greeted warmly by the owner and he sat us down with a coffee while he finished some business with the local police (not unusual to see police in hotels and hostels in latin america, nothing to be concerned about). After that he led us around his available rooms and left us to make a decision. All of the rooms were so lovely it was difficult to make a decision but after he offered us a fantastic price on the "presidential suite" we took it. It was stunning. Huge room with very comfortable bed, great AC, huge flat screen TV and Bose speakers with lots of music channels and Sky TV to enjoy. The signal went a couple of times but when we mentioned it they had it fixed in a matter of minutes. There was a huge balcony attached with stunning views of the lake, and we ordered both lunch and dinner to our suite and ate on this lovely balcony. Pizzas are excellent, cooked on site in a wood fired oven. Impressive. The breakfast was lovely, not a huge selection but still very nice and fresh.
They really seemed to go out of their way to ensure we had a great time, the owner even offered us the use of his little sail boat! (unfortunately there was not much wind so we decided against it).
Cannot speak highly enough of this establishment, after a night in the suite, breakfast, lunch, dinner and lots of drinks when we checked out we were pleasantly surprised at a bill under $100. The surrounding area is stunning, and you can use the hotel´s kayaks, water rings etc on the lagoon.
If you are looking for a romantic getaway or retreat this is your place!

Room Tip: Any of the rooms, theyre all beautiful, but the presidential suite is spectacular!
