“Comfortable, clean, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Was fortunate enough to stay at El Carmen for 2 weeks while studying Spanish in Granada. We stayed in a double room with bathroom for the discounted rate of $10 per night as we stayed for two weeks (usual price is $11 or $12 a night i think). Great value for such a big , private room with bathroom. The rooms are set around a nice garden with hammocks, great for relaxing. You can use the washing machine for a small charge too. The owners, Arnold and Donnally are so helpful and friendly. The location is great too, on Calle Consulado a few blocks from Parque Central so it's fairly peaceful at the Hostal and the Hostal itself is really secure and safe. Would highly recommend staying in at El Carmen for the location, value, security, friendly owners and good feel to the place.

Room Tip: Stayed in a room without a kitchenette but those with kitchenette are also fantastic - big and fully...

Thanks for the kind words. We are always delighted hearing from people liking our Hostal. Owning a Hostal is not just an other job, it is like having a baby and we are proud and humbled others like our baby like we do :D.

The price per room is $12 indeed, we did raise it $1 during your stay. The week rate remains at $70 for the remainder of the year.

Once again,

My husband and I came to Granada thinking we would only be here for one week. We were staying at Hostel El Momento which wasn't very comfortable....by chance we found out about Hostel El Carmen and their $11 private rooms and decided to check it out. During the tour of the place we immediately felt like it would be our little sanctuary. The courtyard was shady and had a cool breeze...a relief from the heat out on the streets of Granada, and when we saw the rooms we were pleasantly pleased.

The rooms are all new. Made with concrete walls...so you won't here your neighbors. Each room has a double bed, ceiling fan, private bathroom, and local handmade furniture. We chose to stay in one of the furnished studio apartments which has fully stocked kitchen and cable tv and WIFI for $25 a night. The longer you stay the cheaper the rates get. Also the place is on one of the prettiest streets in Granada and is super secure. The front gate is always locked and there are safes in every room.

We have been here for almost 2 months now and I don't want to leave. It's our home away from home. Arnold and Donnaly are FANTASTIC hosts. They are very patient and helpful. If we have a problem or make a suggestion about something they are always willing to make the changes necessary to keep us happy and comfortable. It's PERFECTO!

This is a very pleasant quiet hotel in the old part of Granada, four and a half blocks west of the Parque Central. There are only eight rooms, four with kitchens ($25 a night) and four without ($11 a night) so it may be a good idea to make a reservation. There are discount rates if you stay for a week or longer. It is owned by a nice Dutch-Nicaraguan couple who live on the premises. I fully agree with the other positive reviews.

Room Tip: The rooms with a kitchen are twice as large as the other rooms, and the ones on the second floor get...

I planned to stay in Granada for only three days, but got stuck there for 10. One of the reasons was this hostel. Located near the parque central. The area is safe - even after sunset.

Everything was basically new. Rooms have ceiling fan, private bathroom, everything was very clean - there're also rooms with kitchen. They have a wonderful garden with mango threes, hammacs, a table to sit and have breakfast or dinner, good WiFi and a washing machine, you can use

Arnold and Donnaly are really nice and great hosts. If you have any problems or need information - just ask them. If I ever return to Granada, this would be my first choice for a hostel.

We booked three days and easily could have stayed longer. It felt like we were staying with great friends. Our room was spotless with a large private bath. Lots of outdoor garden area for relaxing and visiting with other travelers. Arnold and Donnaly were very helpful and full of information. If you want breakfast, they will make it for you at a very reasonable cost. The omelets were terrific. They also have 4 apartments for rent. The area is safe and only about 3 blocks from the center of town.

I stayed here for 2 weeks while attending spanish school.
The apartments are huge and come with a full kitchen and big bathroom.
The hotel is on a quiet street that seems safe. The Owner, Arnold was very helpful with
any questions i had.I don't think you can get a better place for the price. I would definitely stay here again.

This was my third visit to Hotel El Carmen in a little over a year and I can't help but feeling a sense of traveling to see old friends each time I return. Arnold and Donnaly are such wonderful hosts (and quite a lovely couple :) ). They always have a smile waiting when you return home and make the stay in Granada that much more pleasant. The recent addition of the outdoor patio completes the landscaping and makes another beautiful courtyard rest spot. Arnold has a fantastic sense of space and both him and Donnaly have decorated and furnished each inch of the place superbly. We stayed in one of the upstairs apartments which both of my travel companions could not say enough wonderful things about. The beds are super comfy, the Wi-Fi always working well and the fully stocked kitchen makes it such a pleasure to shop at the local market and prepare some great local treats anytime of day. Keep up the great work! We'll be back again.

Room Tip: I've only stayed in the upstairs apartments which are perfect.
